Images in signature...

Is it possible to put an image in your signature? I have tried the [IMG][/IMG] and [img][/img] tags but it doesn't seem to work. Is there a special tag for this?

I remember when that was removed. It got very out of hand. I had linked to quite a few pics from Artists Against 419, others did their own thing. It got to the point where it was one post per page. I exagerate a little, but you get the idea.

Another forum I visit (non baiting related) allows images in sigs. It's not uncommon to see someone with 3-4 images about 800 pixels wide and nearly as high Shocked

We're thinking about introducing sig images sometime soon, but they will have a width/height limit imposed ruthlessly and only one image per sig! Something like 300x100 pixels will be about the max size. There will be an announcement, along with other stuff soon.

I think it works quite well at the moment not having images. As mentioned above I've seen forums where you have to trawl deeply through the signatures just to find the actual posts.

That's the last thing anyone would want I assume. If we're going to have them at all, in my opinion we should definitely keep them as small as practical.

Not sure if phpBB would have that sort of option, although I've had a look around their site and user created modifications are happening all the time so I wouldn't be surprised...

Keep the height of the images small is probably more important than the length (as long as they didn't blow out).

I'm not sure images in sigs would be a good idea for here. Apart from how distracting they usually are, some of the sigs here are already pretty big with quotes, icons etc.
That's before you get to the extra bandwidth usage.

If they were implemented I definitely think a 'turn off' option is needed otherwise it may just become too irritating to read posts.

On other forums I visit that allow them, I use the adblock extension for Firefox a lot. Don't want to see a pic? It takes 2 or 3 seconds to make sure it never pops up again. I have to say that personally I prefer the quotes people use in their sigs here over the pics people use elsewhere. Short, sweet and a helluva lot funnier.

that option is on alot of forums cause i only select show avators on some forusm if theres alot of users which big siggys like mine use to be when a mate made it for me Cool

IMHO, 300x100 is too much. I would welcome the ability to add emoticons that are not in the standard library. That would reduce the load on Rover to add all the odd things we ask for from time to time, but an actual picture of that size would be too much, and limiting it to a single picture would not be enough.

Agree. I've stopped using a couple of (non-baiting) forums for precisely this reason. A page full of sparkly gif's and cute kittens and the actual post says "wow" or "OMG" Rolling Eyes

Hear hear! I agree. It makes people think about what they use, instead of just grabbing a bloated pic of a bloated dead cow that they slap a poorly photochopped 'witty' remark ("Dead Cow Society") across it because they think it's funny. I hate sig pics. I even hate the icon of my buns.

Definitely agree with the anti-image brigade.

The sigs are great as they are. Simple, easy, quick to download.

If you introduce images it will derogate the simplicity and status of the flags, piths and other meaningful icons.

maximum is 450x200 and file size no bigger then 60kb and they enforce it ruthlessely..

seems to work..

Personally I wouldn't be in favour of having pix in the siggies...

It just makes the forums look a total mess, and means that I wouldn't be able to discretely view 419Eater at all during the day... Crying or Very sad

Infact I honestly can't think of one good reason why we should have them.. Confused
