I was just notified by my boss to find another job. Sad

I worked at this company for almost 6 years. Oh well, time to go on a desperate job hunt... I have mortgage to pay.

If any of you fellow baiters happen to be in the Bay Area of California and need a good IT guy at your company ... I'm available. Smile

I just applied to eBay. Hopefully, they see my knowledge of internet scams as a bonus and put me in the fraud prevention department. Wish me luck...

Best of luck mate.

My brother got axed over a week ago. One of the reasons was he kept falling asleep. He had just been confirmed as having type 2 diabetes. He exaplained it was diabetes that until then as undiagnosed. They said, okay but you are still falling asleep as they were giving him the push a few days later.

That really sucks especially with Bay Area mortgages.

Are you on linkedin? There are huge amounts of Bay Area tech people on there and it's also scoured by recruiters. They also have an available jobs section.

I was fired recently too. Wasn't sure what I would do as I am living in a small town without a lot of prospect for IT jobs. turned out to be a good thing I got a better paying job with more benefits and better work hours. So hang in there man, it will hopefully work out for you.

I'm thankful for all the great guys/gals in this community. It's a difficult time for me now... but everytime I come on here. It cheers me up... especially seeing the mugus get what they deserve (a big o tattoo). I don't want to let this set back eat me alive.

The bad news is pretty devastating to me. As Lotta mentioned, Bay Area mortgages can be very deadly. Uneployment checks won't help much. So I have to pick up my game and spam resumes like a mugu spamming scripts. Very Happy

I'll keep my fingers crossed for your job hunting. I would point out that we do get quite a few job offers ourselves, though let's face it the lads running the jobs are pretty bad employers. At least one good thing though, you'll be able to turn your finger to 419 pretty successfully. Wink

Good luck Anti - I can certainly empathise!

Just before my son turned one I was made redundant - quickly followed by two more redundancies in about the next 6 months (the call me "Lucky"). Mortgaged up to the eyeballs, it was a case of taking what I could get short term to make sure the bills were paid.

The short answer is that something will turn up - just as long as you are prepared to do whatever you have to (scamming excepted!) in the short term to get by.

Keep hunting and keep positive - get your CV checked by mates in the business and trade on inside contacts and specialist skills - you'll get there!

If it's any consolation, I have never gone from one job to a lower paying one. It has always been to a higher paying job. My secret? At the job interview, I always tell them that I left my last job because they couldn't pay me what I was worth. When they ask how much I'm worth, I always name a figure $10 - $12 more than I was making. When they offer me only $6 -$8 dollars more, I grudgingly accept! Wink

I am certain that with the number of house foreclosures ( California being one of the highest at about 1 in 124 homes foreclosed this past year;only Nevada is higher with 1 in 69 homes foreclosed), that searching for a job will be difficult. I recommend that you try the obvuious job search engines like Monster, Hotjobs or Careerbuilders. Now then do you subscribe to the Ziff Davis publications ( Free subscriptions online) in the IT field like Baseline, CIO Insight, eWeek,etc? I get these myself because IT is an interest or an avocation. However, the point that I wish to make is that they sometimes list jobs and companies that could use people with your background. Also if it gets tough going, consider going into business by your self or serving as a consultant to the IT industry--there is plenty of money there. Hang in there!
