"You've recieved a greeting card" - Phish, scam or

I have recieved an email in my catcher account today which tells me I have recieved a greeting e-card from someone. (Impossible as no-one has the address).

When I followed the link to view it, it says there is an error with the e-card and it cannot be viewed.

Is this some sort of wheeze to see which email addresses are still active, and therefore all the better to bombard with spam?
Or is it just spam? I don't normally get anything but ladmail in my inbox.

The website is: www.2000Greetings.com It looks 100% legit.

I thought there was new virus actually propagating itself like this. Might look it up on Norton or McAfee's web site.

I never click on any link or open any attachment that comes unsolicited through my catcher accounts. I've literally received dozens of those greeting card links in the last few weeks.
I've pissed off so many lads that it wouldn't suprise me if one or two tried to get a bit of revenge.

It's a virus (most likely). We've seen it spread among some of the "curious" at work who weren't lucky enough to have their anti-virus catch it.

A lad who has your address used an infected machine.

I've been receiving two or three of those a day for the past fortnight - from friends, neighbours, workmates, school chums, and even worshippers. They get deleted on sight (the emails, not the people 'sending' them).

For the past month, I've received 3-4 e-cards per day in my personal e-mail accounts. About the same number of messages with an attached pdf file show up every day. They are automatically deleted.

I send and receive a fair number of legitimate e-mails with attachments every week. I request that the e-mail subject line contains a specific word so I can easily spot the legitimate ones. I never open an attachment unless it is from someone I know and the subject line has the specific word. This also cuts down on the number of mass mailed jokes, etc. from friends and family. I've also been getting a shed load of these ecards, with quite a few the link takes you to a direct download that then proceeds to dump a .exe file on your desktop. Best thing is just to delete them.
