Well, I'm off to Canada as of the 6th of August. I'm taking my laptop with me, so I'll drop in occasionally. We're flying from Glasgow- Toronto, then (Canadian affair overbooked our return flight) Toronto-Manchester-Glasgow. We're going to hire a car to drive to Niagra falls, and maybe spend a couple of days in the USA. I've also booked the revolving restaurant at the CN tower for my wifes birthday.
Any other POIs you could recommend? |

From what I've heard friends say, you should check out an Ice Hockey game if you get the chance.
Take lots of photos! |

I've been to most Canadian cities Craig, but alas Toronto and Vancouver are the two that I've somehow avoided!
Personally I'm a fan of Ottawa. But I guess that's very little help to you!
Have a good time bud. My holiday starts in Sept! |

Depends where in the US you go - all the points i would recomend are a good 10-11 hour drive from where you will be at. But bright extra memory cards and batteries for the camera. - |

When you get to Toronto, check out the University of Toronto. Nice old buildings, very picturesque, and pretty nice overall. If you're into museums, check out the Royal Ontario Museum, near the university, and be sure to check out the hockey hall of fame, if you're into that stuff... |

You may want to cancel that booking - the food really isn't that great there.
During my first trip to Toronto I took a ride in the space flight simulator they had in the basements of the CN tower - lot of fun, but it's no longer there I believe. |

AFAIK, there is still a ride, but I don't know if it's a space ride or something else now. The revolving restaurant's food isn't that great. Go to somewhere interesting for dinner. I would recommend a few restaurants in the Little Italy area, including this one, whose name I can't remember has a stone oven where they bake their pizzas... |

Revolving restaurants at the top of high towers do have a tendency to be horrifically expensive, and for the food to be very so-so. I guess they're a bit squished for room when it comes to their kitchen, and they realise that people are mainly going there for the view rather than the food.
It's pretty much the same deal in Auckland, we have a revolving restaurant at the top of our Sky Tower.
I wouldn't necessarily not go to one though simply because you can find better food elsewhere. If you want a romantic evening then dinner at the top of the CN Tower is probably hard to beat - even if the food isn't totally awesome. |

@ craig - I hope your wife has a head for heights It wouldn't bother me if the food up there's only so-so because I wouldn't be able to swallow it due to the dry mouth, sweaty plams, laying on the floor in the foetal position whimpering. Add the bloody thing revolving as well.... I'd be an instant basket case.
Other than that, Tronno is a great city. Really |

I wish I knew, Persie
Thanks for the tips and advice guys, it gives me a better idea of how to plan the trip.
A lot of negative comments about the CN Tower restaurant, I see... I'm not really sure what else to do, I think the novelty of it 'revolving' was the main attraction. I wanted to make it something to remember... Thank goodness the hotel offers childcare

^^ and on top of that, one tour takes about 1 hour, and that's also the time you get to finish your dinner. |

Well, one of the waterfront hotels does have a revolving restaurant. If you're interested in that, why not? There are plenty of places to go out and eat in Toronto, don't limit yourself to the revolving restaurant.
Another place I would recommend is the Korean Grill House on Yonge St. and Bloor St. They bring you the meat, and you have to cook it over a grill at your table!
http://www.toronto.com/restaurants/listing/000-180-994
The website here says that it's on Queen St. but I know that there is one on Yonge and Bloor (I ate there recently). Dinner's not too expensive either... |
