It seems to me that there is some kind of misunderstanding here and there is some crossing over of language and culture issues,,

@Zorro,
If you are saying that, English is an international language and therefore anyone wanting to communicate outside their own countries with foreign nationals should learn English to a communication level, then I have to fully agree with you Wink

Class distinction Question

Oh damm, this is where the cultural issue clashes with the language issue, sadly in some countries around the world it is true that someone having no English language is thought of as being less educated, and although this is of course NOT TRUE, it is in some cultures thought of as being the case.

Language itself has no class, creed or colour distinction, only people do but as a tool, language in the most valuable tool a person can have and it just happens that English is the most global of those tools.

Now before anyone wants a pop at me I should tell you that the above is based on my opinion and training too, I am an international English language teacher and have been since 1992. I hold 2 international diplomas for language teaching and international teacher training and I have also worked in many countries around the world so I guess thats my experience covered too.

one final thought,,, language and culture are closely related but we must always remember one is a tool and the other is a way of life..

I think we're generally quite forgiving of poor English grammar on here. At times I make typos, and though I try to notice them sometimes I am sure they slip through the gap. It does seem as though quite a few people posting on here probably have English as their 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) language, and therefore at times they'll say stuff that seems a bit odd or doesn't quite make sense to us. Yet there's always the opportunity to ask them to clarify.

Fortunately we're not into the whole txt spk, which is great as that does my head in, and also we don't go for the whole gratuitous spelling errors, except for when we're trying to hide names such as Usman Bello.

I think we should go easy on those who aren't that used to English, one of the best things about this forum is that it isn't dominated by any one part of the world. But at the same time have reasonable standards that everyone at least try to write their best. Which seems to happen.

More seriously, I am a real stickler for spelling and grammar (as hopefully my reasonable language on this board has indicated). Especially **apostraphes, which really annoy me when they're used when they shouldn't be, or not used when they should be. I guess that's what happens when you spend 5 years at university.

Apostrophe's have been used in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and all the other 's

Why can't you learn to like the guy's?

It's quite nice to actually see apostraphes (although not when Reaper uses them!) in a forum on the internet. I spent quite a few years in chat rooms back when I was in my late teens, and probably didn't see an apostraphe for a few years as a result.

It is good we have some standards here.

I is rate gud at english an stuff. its rate impotent were i cum frm.

When I lived in France, I was amazed at how many French could speak English beautifully, yet I was a guest in their country but crap at their language. I used to feel so ignorant. I did try to learn the language, but the French were far happier learning English from me.
I guess I'm just a lazy asshole, which to be fair, is the same for most Englishmen.
