Just got this in my inbox from "taylor vero"

"Dear Friend,

My name is veronica Taylor, I am resident in Monrovia the capital city
ofLiberia.I am the wife to the former President of Liberia
(CharlesTaylor).I am a 48 years old woman with three children, I am a
devouted christain.

Sequel to the arrest of my husband at a nigerian border town by custom
officials and his consequent transfer to Sierra Leone and then to the
united nations headquarters for trial for war crime which he was accused
to have committed during the war in my country Liberia and a neighbouring
country (Sierra Leone).I am afraid that the hit might soon turn on us (his
immediate relatives) in the even that he convicted as his trial has
started.

I therefore urgently want to acquire a property (HOUSE) as i wish to
relocate my children out of this country for safety and also to start a
new life before this present turn around of event affects the future of my
children and i. My choice of property are duplex houses with about four or
five bedrooms in a very peaceful and quiet city.The prices of which I
expect to range between US$500,000.00 to USD$700,000,00 .The mode of
payment will notbe a problem for I am paying you cash. PLEASE CAN I TRUST
AND CONFIDE IN YOU? The war in my country and the present happenings
concerning my husband has taken a different toll as many people are still
being killed silently and i do not think my children and i are safe here.

Due to security reasons, I will not be able to call you and you can not
call me too as our telephone lines are being bugged.

What is the scam here, promising me a cut of the money to
use my accounts to buy real estate, or targeting property owners?

Unsure of his angle but a definate scam as Eliza has pointed out. It would end up with you either coughing up advanced fees or cashing a fake cheque/money order which either way would land you in deep trouble.

Oh i am sure it will be they are having problem getting the cash to you, possibly using a courier company that will require payment something along that lines. This will be an advance fee fraud, pretty sure it won't be check.

She(more than likely a he) may need you to front money for passports and everything but will pay you back when they get to the states, possibly something along that lines also.

Just go ahead and bait them and see what silly excuses they can come up with.

"They" may not want to call you, but you'll have to talk to the lawyer who'll step in. Most likely because "she" is a he.

Very interesting scam letter you have there. I have never seen this type before. It seems to be a regular advance fee scam with a twist. My best bet is that she will ask for your help (of course she will promise you some money in return for your assistance) and beg for the money when the bank or the government needs to be paid for taxes or documents. She will probably claim she cannot access the money at the moment (with the hubby on trial and all that) and she will give the money back later. Guaranteed of course.

I agree with previous posters that 'she' will probably get you to contact her lawyer or bank. Try and stay in touch with the original character as well. It is always great fun to complain to her about the bad service and the general inaptitude of the people she hired. You can always suggests she fires them and hire a more professional lawyer / banker Laughing

Strangely enough, some of her money is with her youngest in Ghana. He was with his father when they fled to Nigeria and he escaped with 2 boxes (1 of cash and 1 of gold bars).

I know this cos he is trying to scam me to help him get to UK.

Of course I am doing everything in my power to help him

And don't forget - if that came into your *personal* email account, don't reply from there! Shocked

Bait safe - set up a gmail account (or similar, that hides your real IP address) - reply from there. They won't notice that it isn't the address they sent it to, because they send it to hundreds at a time. If you want, you can cut & paste the original into the bottom of your reply... that's what I normally do. Smile
