Dunlop_spirit (and any other visitors), if you have any ideas that might be useful, PM one of the moderators. It's most unfortunate that our site is now known to the guy, although I don't think any experienced sligtly experienced 419 Eater member would do such a thing. It's more likely an angry victim attacking in anger. PM is safe from google/login/whatever, so don't worry.

If you don't know who to PM, PM me and I'll make sure it ends up with the right mod.

I guess I wasn't the only one scammed by supplier. This is what I found on a icq board. I noticed supplier using a different icq# on this victim.

Just a word to the wise. There is a major scam being run and ICQ is the vehicle being used to spread it! It works like this.

ICQ member # 401113932 going by the name 'Supplier(KRS)' is offering $200 to anyone willing to help him transfer money on his behalf. You are asked to open a bank account at RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) He will then supposedly transfer $2000 to that account. As soon as you see the money show up in your account, you are to go to the bank and withdraw $1800. You keep the other $200. Then you go to any Western Union outlet and send that $1800 (less the cost of the Western Union) to an address he has given you. My cousin did this. Sent the WU, went to work and had a message from the bank waiting for her at the office. The bank fraud department told her the original $2000 transfer was a fraudulent transaction and there was NO $2000 after all. Her account was frozen and she had to pay back the $2000.

Be very careful if anyone makes you a 'quick and easy' way to make $200!!

It was mentioned earlier in this thread I think, but if it is on a zombie bot then letters to the hoster aren't going to do much good.

You will have to go to the Registrar and get them to zap that domain completely.

Oh yes, when you register, you get an email from [email protected] and on the site he stall asks vic to email him at [email protected] so getting them closed would be good.

I aim fairly certain this shouldnt work in Australia. I have a lot of experience with various banks here and they wont give you the funs if they dont get them first. I know some you can pay for express clearance, which might be a provisional clearance, but I doubt it because it is 24 hours as opposed to 3 days - and thats only on Australian cheques. International cheques can languish in your account for months waiting for clearance (this I know as my mother is a columnist and still has an uncleared international cheque hanging around in her account that she deposited in 2005). I believe even bank cheques need approval from the issuing bank these days - which they get on the spot - due to some bank cheque fraud.

Now I am not 100% risky free certain on that - but I am within a reasonable amount of doubt sure the most an Aussie will be out is the fee for the rubber cheque.

If only more banks were that careful. That would stop this stupid scam in its tracks.

Perhaps we could also double our efforts and also to try and petition banks to stop clearing cheques provisionally?

@XPS1710 - as someone mentioned in another thread, dunno about in other countries, bu in the US, banks are required by federal regulation to allow access to the funds within x number of days, which often means that they funds are made available long before any check truly clears.

In addition, any checkwriter can claim it was bogus and dispute any check in 30 days (some banks have told me 30 days from date it hit their account, others have told me 30 days from date of monthly statement).

So, if person steals my checkbook and writes checks against my account, I have 30 days to dispute the checks as invalid whereas the banks that accepted them for deposit into victim accounts have to allow access to the funds within x number of days.

Just saying, that's what happens in the US. Wink

Sure its an inconvenience on real cheques to have to wait, but I am sure its more of an inconvenience when its a fake one.

Is there any way to know the difference between Provisional Clearance and Actual Clearance?
