You might say the same of the victims who send hundreds of thousands of dollars to these scumbags for trunkboxes full of money in Amsterdam. The lads always ask for smallish amounts first. After you invest a substantial amount, it's hard to pull out, and that's what happened to Ed. It started with small trips of a few hundred kilometers within Nigeria, onto trips to Accra, Ghana, and now it's progressed to this. Same thing, situation reversed.

By remarking what an idiot he is, with emphasis on lads' stupidity in general, you imply that this must've been very easy to do, and attempt to downgrade the bait. The lads' dumbness amazes you. If that's the case, it should be easy for you to repeat this safari with another lad. Smile

I'm sorry, but on the one hand, you're saying he's probably cleverer than us, and is pretending to be in Singapore just for our entertainment, then you say he's a total asshat. Which is it?

Can I offer an idea here? (inspired by self-interest of course because I can't bear to see this guy get back on a plane to Nigeria on Saturday).

Could we say that the lawyer with the documents got hung up in Malaysia and courier a ginormous stack of documents to him in singapore that he has to fill out and initial and courier back to Malaysia? included in this stack is a bunch of legal fakery about how its no big deal to overstay the visa. Say we courier this to him tomorrow and he gets it thursday. then he has to send it back same day so that it arrives back with the "lawyer" on friday. we tell him that if he sticks to this timetable to expect a check to arrive in singapore on saturday (which of course it doesn't). by then he is so baited that he will overstay his visa, caution be damned.

My in-laws live in penange and we could e-mail them the docs and ask them to print out and courier, making it look all the more realistic?

^^ The visa overstay is covered. We did that a few pages back. A possible ending to this is the lawyer runs away with the money, and the girl.

Courier delivery sounds great, but it involves spending money on the lad, which goes against the grain a little........

Talking of couriers, if my courier service can be of any help to send him documents that will never arrive, get burnt in a fire, or can be for collection only from some far away place, let me know and I'll make a tracking page.

Same applies if you want to send him some money hidden inside a briefcase with a combination lock on it, we will find the money hidden and hinder him in getting it, give me a shout if you need any help along these lines.

See, that's precisely my point - what if, just once, a package WERE actually to arrive? even if it had only bogus docs inside? wouldn't it do wonders for his confidence level?

theortically speaking, are there not certain "special circumstances" in scambaiting (i.e. getting a scammer who is really close to the end of his rope, who may close to twigging, to continue on an exceptionally elaborate safari that is too good to end) that merit spending some money, indirectly, to further scam the scammer? at some point his suspension of disbelief will end. this is why i suggested earlier that even directly sending him a de minimus amount of money might be a good longer term investment, in the sense that it might enable us to steer him into even further trouble. the same way that the lads in other baits, for example, invest money to send a wood-carving to England as an investment in a bigger payoff.

but I humbly defer to the elite baiters handling this bait. I only volunteered to be one of the suckers that invests some of the funds, since this is far better entertainment than anything i can currently buy with said funds... Very Happy

G_S, one thing that would concern me about your inlaws sending something to him by courier, would be implicating them in the lad's pain, and placing them at possible risk from any repercussions. That's crossing the line. Other than that, what people do to lads and what they spend doing it to them is their business. IMO, we shouldn't expend too much cash or energy running them ragged. They do that, not us.

Not all lads are stupid, especially those who work in gangs. There are some highly sophisticated scammers out there. But there are also LOTS of solo flyers like Ed, little guys who think they can do just like the big boys. Some of them are clever too, but a lot of them are naive, to put it kindly.

Any baiter with some experience will tell you that most baits don't go anywhere. It takes a lot of time, effort, and cleverness to pull off a good bait. It's just a matter of hooking them firmly.

As for Eddie, I baited him a couple years ago. He's thick as a brick, and as PDS and MM have said repeatedly in this thread, he's boring as hell. It has taken incredible patience for them to stick with this bait long enough to get Ed absolutely hooked on their story. This is not an everyday bait, this is something remarkable -- and that's why this thread is up to 34 pages.

Sit back and enjoy it. There's a lot to be learned in this masterpiece of teamwork, no matter how long you've been baiting. Ed's stupidity may seem unbelievable, but it really isn't. He's in this way too deep now to give up his dream.

I'm just curious...PDS and MM,when 3ddie eventually returns to Nigeria are you still going to continue to bait him? I know you've invested a lot of time in 3d...but is this sort of going to be the "grand finale"? Even when he goes home, a lad that's willing to go this far and put up with so much seems like a rare find, I'd hate to see it end Crying or Very sad

mr.mugu says he's done with Ed after this safari ends, and I actually think he means it. He put a lot of time into the bait, in the first few months of this year especially, and it wasn't too entertaining at that time. There'd been a few token funny moments previously, but nothing that would make anyone want to keep it up. I think I'm done with him after this, too.

We might offer him up for adoption, who knows? Wink

Team baiting can be very effective. That's been proven over and over again. Everyone should try it.

Well a couple of things, not in any specific order.
@GS, I would suggest to you that if you plan on doing something, please make sure that anything you send is untracable back to the source. I could tell Ed where I am right now and I doubt that he could do anything about it. Your inlaws are another story entirely.
@Homer, you gave me an interesting idea that I have to think about. I've told Ed that George is helping me out in Malaysia now. Depending on what Eliza and Double-O do I plan on calling him tonight and go all batsh*t if (when) he begs for money. I plan on telling him that you and I have been trying to find this boat and, no, we can't really find the time to stop off at a WU to send him more money. If he mentions you, I can either say you're just a mean p**ck that doesn't like him or........ perhaps George hasn't been making those calls after all? Perhaps the 7 Dragons have his phone number?
@leia, I know that PDS doesn't believe me, but I think I'm getting off before the series jumps the shark Very Happy

I doubt I can get him to go anywhere else without another two years of pillowtalk. I _would_ love to see if someone can get "stupid" tatooed on his forehead. I have thought about opening him up to other baiters or just giving him a link to this thread at the end. I will,of course, defer to PDS depending on what he wants to do.
@Juan (this is kind of generic, but if follows up to your very good points) re the lads being stupid. I've baited at least 100 lads, probably well more than that. Any bait that lasts more than the first couple of exchanges I've tried to get them to go on a safari. You all can see how many hats I have, and 4 of them are from 2 people. I think yeawhatever does much better safari baits than I do and once I asked him how he manages to find them. He sends out accidental emails to a thousand lads and whittles them down to the one truely stupid lad that's willing to travel to Darfur. It is sadly not something that is an easy thing to do. There is one particular sophisticated gang operating in the US (Red Cross/ Holocaust victims anyone?) that I would love to do this kind of crap to, but they generally figure out my baits in a couple of weeks. Our hobby would be a lot easier if they were all this stupid.
