According to Sky news, it is a "significant incident". Two "Asian looking men" "frantically drove the jeep into the airport building screaming..."

A 4x4 jeep has driven into the terminal building at Glasgow airport and caught fire, police have confirmed. Witnesses reported hearing a series of loud "bangs" and saw a man on fire.

One, James Edgar, told Sky News: "People were running past like they has missed their flight. "They told us all to get out of the airport.

"Everyone was in a panic and police and security were scuffling with an Asian gentleman."

It is thought two men had been in the Cherokee jeep and one of their clothes caught fire.

Sky's Mark White said: "This is a significant incident.

"There are reports that the occupant or occupants of this vehicle have been seen fighting with police inside the terminal building."

As I was saying, I think it's more serious than the title suggests.

As an airline pilot, I can see what implications this can have. I will try to update if I hear anything from my colleagues.

I think this may be terrorist related, but I'm not going to say much more, there are no confirmed details.

More reports are saying that the driver took a gas cylinder from the vehicle Shocked

Eyewitness has told Sky News that a gas cylinder was removed from the car just before an explosion.

Removing... Does that mean that he was doing good by removing a possible explosive. Then the question arises: Why was it there in the first place??

It's also very suspicous that this comes after the failed car bomb attacks in London.

BBC News eyewitness claims it is a terrorist attack.

Terminals are so easy to target, anyone could take weapons into the terminals, there is no secuirity at the entrances.

As I'm based at Glasgow, I'm in the 'thick of it', so to speak.

I wonder what Glasgow ATIS is saying?

There are also reports coming in that parts of the Royal Alexandra Hospital are being evacuated although no news on why as yet.

Unrelated to the Glasgow incident, but a very dodgey report has come in that there was an explosion at Heathrow!

Explosion was theory quished, apparently it was a non suspicous car fire.

theres a lot more to this.

About 15 minutes before the attack ETA was given an anon warning - they assumed it was ibiza airport. ( no devices were found )

If it was 'wrong place wrong time', there are some VERY large coincidences. Why would anyone deliberately drive a vehicle into a place where there are loads of people?

Also, when do you ever see a car fire with 5 hoses pointing at it? I'm 95% sure an accelerant was used.

Considering the events in London over the last few days, then the Ibiza incident and now GLA? There is something fishy going on here.

A friend of mine phoned to tell me he was diverted to Edinburgh because of the alert. Scottish ATC told him there was a bomb Shocked

Police press conference has just happened:

Incident is considered a terrorist act and has similarities to the incidents in London. One member of the public injured in the leg. The one suspect taken to hospital was found to have a suspicious device about his person, requiring evacuation.

The jeep contained flammable materials, which have still yet to stabilise enough for forensic investigations to begin.

News in the USA said that one of the people in the vehicle had a molotov cocktail in hand as the Jeep vehicle slammed into the facility.

Damn, my oldest is a flight attendant here. Safety to all in the airline industry!

well we are living in the 54 th state.
like last time this went off bad news was 'leaked' out.

politics and religion is completly screwing this world up and we should have some sort of peace day and gag all politicians,religous leaders word wide for the sake of mankind before it all goes completly tits up.

why is there so much greed and hatred for particular groups of people.

very sad world we live in today.i just hope we all find peace for all our children and childrens sake

It's a difficult business to be in. I remember after 9/11, many,many in the industry left. On the other hand, you only have a one in 52 million chance that you will get killed on a flight.

I have a sister who's a sterwardess, a best friend who's a stewardess, a brother who's a long haul pilot and a brother in law who's a short haul pilot and transfers to Glasgow from LHR in a couple of weeks Shocked

My sis worked from LHR for 17yrs, then moved to EMA where, apparantly the security is shocking. If nothing else, security in ALL airports will be 'beefed up' again'!

On a bi-note, when we went back to UK this time, I was called out of line (I must look suspicious) at LHR, where they did a 'strip' x-ray thing of me!
I instinctivley covered my ninnies Embarassed

(another side note - In Bali (2002), they made you put your bags through x-ray before going into the airport. Didn't inconvenience me one iota. On a sad note though, didn't stop the Sari club being bombed either.)
