Just came across this question on another forum that I frequent.
Did any UK baiters used to sit for hours with (pre-digital) teletext, waiting for the scores to update? I can certainly remember doing it a few times before we got Sky!
I also remember the horrible innacuracies that were often involved (unless I was mistaken and Raith Rovers did actually draw 9-9 with Inter Milan in a Champions League game in 1999)
Come on, Im sure I wasnt the only person who done this! |

We still do it here in the low countries ever since the Soccer matches went to the Pay channels. The pay channels are not popular in Holland possibly only in the area where I live but here during competition season when I am at friends house we often have the TV on Teletext ...
That said when I'm not at those friends I usually sit in one of the cafe's watching the matches live.
Either way there is always beer involved |

@Iwan : indeed, after 7 years in the UK I moved back to Belgium, and being Dutch wanted to watch Dutch soccer.... only to find that I can't get the channels where I live (unless I stick up one of these hideous dishes).
... then the BBC stopped transmitting teletext abroad so...
I now sit look at the scores on various websites... basically the same as watching it on Teletext... nicer colours though |

I remember back about 10 years ago, I used to have cable. If you put the box to the channel above the channel you wanted and slightly detuned the TV you could pick up the audio from it and a really bad picture. I used to listen to wrestling PPVs that way. Now of course I just read the reports online. |

Oh yes. Before I got married, my mate and me would sit in the pub and get him to put the teletext scores on most nights. |

Football..?
No sorry, remind me, is that the supposed sport where 22 overpaid pansies run up and down a grass area for 90 minutes trying not to get mud on their clothes or , God Forbid, their hair messed up?
I believe there used to be a sport called Football where the idea was to get a spherical leather object into a net suspended between two posts that was closely guarded by one of the opposing team.
Now, the 'sport' that they call football seems to be all about not getting too close to an opposing player incase he taps you in the leg or pulls at your nice shirt.
Personally, I can't stand the 'sport'. How anybody stays awake for 90 minutes watching it is beyond me. |

Hey, that video is cool (you're right about muting, though!).
What I find interesting is that the soccer players were able to get up after being struck and continue on when fighting; however, as we saw in the World Cup, if they trip over their own shoe laces while within five meters of another team's player, a stretcher team is required to take them off of the field.
Any sport that is so boring that the fans spontaneously begin to fight with each other in a huge riot - presumably because they just realized they paid money to watch soccer, and figured there should be some sort of full contact action - just seems weird to me.
At least in baseball (the only non-contact sport worth watching) there is fun with statistics and tie games are not allowed. |
