On my old PC I never used to receive any Spam (on my personal email that is.....plenty on my yahoo and hotmailadresses...)
Two weeks ago I had to buy another PC because the old one was constantly shutting down and restarting (motherboard failure), and decided to take the plunge and get Windows Vista (Home Premium).
Despite the negative reviews I rather like it.
The only thing is that I now get 2/3 spam emails a day.
I haven't joined any other forum or chatroom other that the ones I was already registered with.
I don't have a spamfilter but then again, I didn't have one on my old PC.
Could this have something to do with using Vista? |

I've recently bought a new laptop with Vista, and I cannot say I have noticed an increase in spam levels. I am not sure how changing from XP to Vista would do that anyway. |

@Eight : neither do I, it's just that for the past 4 years I haven't had a single spam email, and now I'm getting 2/3 offers for Viagra.. unless my wife is trying to give me a hint
@TSNerd : yep, I did, but I also registered my previous PC online... is Packard Bell selling email addresses??? |

I doubt that the company itself is, but that's the only thing that I could think of. It wouldn't be the computer itself.
Any other recently purchased product that you registered online could also have been the cause of the spam influx, or filling out an online survey for a receipt from a bookstore or a home improvement store. |

When you registered online, did you check for opt outs?
Sometimes you have to check the boxes to opt-in, sometimes to opt-out.
Me thinks your email address may have been passed on to one of PB's 'Authorised third parties'..
cough cough.
Sneaky really..... |

M$ is now selling registration emails to spammers to make up for the money lost in vista users switching to linux.
