Check this out pleps - my girlfriend just got a check from Canada for over $65,000 from a money laundering scheme! The bank checked with the issuing bank and they said it's real!!! IT'S PARTY TIME!!!!! happy crowd

Your banks gonna say it looks fine, then give it a few days to a month, when they send it to the "issuing bank" it will be a fake. Checks from the lads intially clear all of the time, then the victim ends up holding the bag.

Some banks are even closing the accounts of customers who cash phony checks.

@Mind freak, I seriously hope that you are joking and didn't actually deposit a cheque from a money laundering scam. Let me help you with a few facts.

1. There is no frikkin way a lad is going to send a victim $65,000 that isn't proceeds from an illegal act.
2. It can take up to 6 months for a cheque to come back from the bank, so a 10 day hold is useless.
3. There are several methods used by lads when sending cheques to vics, including: fake cheques, stolen and/or washed cheques, cheques sent by victims of another scam, cheques from an account filled by CC fraud or identity theft, and cheques from a flashed account.
4. All of the above methods are highly illegal, and the police WILL trace the funds to you.
5. When they do so, you will learn the meaning of "money laundering" in a whole new way.

Well, with the few positives here, I guess I can get my droperator to cash the cheque for $78,900 in kitty. I could fly over, and we could have a ball in Vegas. And I was going to destroy it. We can also use the Walmart Moneygrams for petty cash. Wow!!, we can really have a ball.

The * cheque is definitely a fake. It will clear, and then the bank will realize it has no funds. Some mugulized dunce friend (ex-friend) of mine tried to have me cash on of those back in 1998 (and he let me know what it was). Said he'd take half and I'll make monthly payments back to the bank (see, I actually know a mugu). What an amature.

Has anybody done that before? Since the baiting persona would presumably be gullible enough to believe both scams actually involved money, it seems like this would be an effective way to pay off a whiny mugu. Especially since the check should clear for a few days...

^^^^ I think LJ was joking, but if someone were to do that then that someone might be committing a criminal act.

In my state, possession of a fake check with intent to distribute is a crime. Distribution in and of itself is another crime in this state.

Please, let's not lower ourselves to the level of "lad" by breaking the same laws. Besides, you'll have much more fun with the various WU/Moneygram modalities, and that fun is legal.

Granted (and LJ was obviously joking), but couldn't that be circumvented by providing the check's sender with the address of the other mugu? Somebody being tricked once (as the persona would be) would presumably be naive enough to be scammed multiple times at once, so it wouldn't be an extreme logic for them to take on one scam to make quick cash through checks to get the funds to get the inheritance from their unknown Nigerian ancestor.
