This evening a colleague of mine who we shall call Samuel, sent an ASEM to the above "firm" as follows

Unfortunately, he has been suddenly taken ill with dysentry, and has been unable to finalise that matter.
Pastor Bello, I cannot see anywhere in his computer where you have sent the Western Union details to enable the money to be paid.
Would you please send it urgently, as I have the money in cash, and to tell the truth, I'm a little frightened of bandits here on my own.
Soon as you send it, I will drive to the township and wire the money.

Please say a prayer for Father George, Pastor

It is difficult toascertain his name, as Kelvin and Gerrard appear interchangeable.
Or is it possible that he is a genuine job provider???
His IP resolves to Nigeria.

It sounds like they are asking people to launder money for them, so it could be "legit" in that way - they really do need people to launder, even though it's not a "legit" job.

Standard fake job/dud cheque operation. I have one running where I am collecting donations for a fake charity. The cheques would bounce eventually if they were paid in. They intend that you pay them the money before they are cleared and paid. It seems that the US banking system is much more vulnerable to this type of scam, though it is the victim who ends up out of pocket, not the scammer or the bank.

The fun bit is when you tell the scammer you have deposited the cheque and spent their money on gambling, women and booze. They usually stick the FBI on you - I can't wait. Very Happy

^^^I often tell them that I've sent the money to that nice Mr U5man Be11o who contacted me to help get $10 million out of the country and I'll send him the money when the trunk turns up.
