A swarm of bees decided to set up home in a disused chimney on my house at the weekend.

It was quite spectacular at the time. Knowing they are docile (doped up on honey!) when swarming, I went and stood in the middle of the swarm for a while - the sight and sound was intense!

The hive's new home is only accessible via a 40' ladder, so local beekeepers (who are all in their 60's it seems) are not interested in collecting them. However, as long as they will not do any damage to the property, I'm happy to let them stay where they are. The chimney is completely sealed at the bottom, so there is no danger of bees entering the house itself.

A couple of large tins of fly spray, with the spray button taped down and lobbed in to the chimney should do the trick Twisted Evil

Bees have also been known to dance naked.
They truly are up to no good.

@Zen- you went out and stood in the middle of them while they were doing their swarming thing? Every 'insects are bad and have been corrupted by medlling scientists' movie I ever saw as a kid in the 70's would lead me to believe that this would be rather foolhardy.

I just read something about the dramatic decline of honey bees. It seems they think it will be the beginning of the end Shocked

According to the local news (especially last month during sweeps), Bees Will Kill You Without A Second Thought, Particularly Those Dangerous Africanized Killer Bees Which Have Been Found Locally. I would be very concerned if I were a moderator on an anti-419 board and a swarm of potentially Africanized bees took up residence in my house. Coincidence? I think not.

Africanized bees have been seen in the area by a wasp nest outside my Amateur radio Barn, Most hovered by the nest with small fish on their heads...

And I miss you guys too! (Pinky sends a massive Snooooork!)
