help! a mugu has my details!

Hi,
I come to 419 Eater in shame. Last night I found a deal on a camera in Brisbane that was too good to be true and STUPIDLY - don't know why I did it but I did - gave out my name, address and phone number. Anyway, today I had an email waiting for me asking me to make a WU money order to Lagos. I immediatly got suspicous and a few minutes searching revealed that yep, he is a scammer. I haven't lost any money, but because I was bloody stupid last night there's a mugu out there with my personal details and my primary email address. What should I do?

I've thought about replying, saying that I've just moved house and give him a fake address and phone number, would that work?
Any help would be much appreciated,

I'd be inclined to just drop it completely.

Don't reply to their emails at all.

They're not going to do anything with your info from Nigeria unless you gave them a reason to think they would get something out of you.

So unless you've been conversing with them for a long time, I'd just drop them. They'll move on.

If you're really concerned, give the Qld cops a call and explain the situation. They probably won't care, but it may give you some piece of mind.

Hi and welcome to the eater, send them one last email saying you have now bought another camera so you don't need theirs now, then just ignore any emails or phone calls form them.

They can't really do anything with the details you gave to them, just ignore them from now on.

we all make mistakes my uncle went ahead with one of the scams thankfully he only lost a few hundred...

Just stop all contact with this address, google your info every now and then to see if he is using it. And if he gets on the phone tell him that you just moved to jail. There's nothing there that he couldn't have found in the phone book.
Welcome and read the sticky's if you want to play along. And if you, after reading the sticky's, still want to play, get a mentor, some nice email addresses and dive in the surplus section for the deal you like.

oh yes, I do want to play. I've been reading through the baits and it seems right up my alley. I'll have more people to harass now than just my boss!
Thanks for the advice, I'll just ignore him from now on. Although... with a different email address, he could be my first bait!

Welcome to Eater, desklamp. Actually, I think you should take Doctor X up on that great offer to get some of Paris Hilton's $$. It sounds 100% risky-free to me, and he typed all in caps so you know he can be trusted!

Just ignoring this guy further on sounds like the best things to do to me. On the homepage of this site I read an advice that you could write him one last mail that you have been adviced not to pursue this deal any further. If you write him that and/or ignore the rest of his mails, he will lose interest soon enough.

But if he suddenly gets swamped, mass baited and whatnot, and suspects that you might have anything to do with it, he might cause... well, maybe not exactly trouble, but unnecessary annoyance might occur- and we are here to annoy scammers, not to cause ourselves annoyance, I like to think Wink

I wouldn't do that. After all, he knows who you are (well, not really, he does have some personal details but that's it) and that might be a bit too close for comfort.

Take a mentor and maybe that mentor can take on your mugu. Don't start to ambitious!!! Learn the ropes first!

But I wouldn't worry. Just take the advice others have given and ignore any mail they send out.
