well almost a year gone by since i joined this wonderfull site.my eaterversary is in 6 days time but unfortunately i will be unable to join in the celebrations as im away on holiday.
i really cant wait
one week in sri lanka (hopefully the tamils are taking it easy when i get there)
then off to the maldives for the other week to just chill out and snorkel the coral.
two weeks of nowt.have been banned from taking laptop and mobile phone.much to my annoyance i must say.
anyway.... thanks to everyone who has helped,advised and bollocked me
over the last 12 months its been just fab.

Colombo airport sucks. Should you get stuck there for more than 3 hours (which happens frequently), remember that they only take US dollars cash in their shower facilities or in their sleeping rooms. The airport bank does not give money on credit cards and there isn't an ATM in the entire transit area.

have been to colombo airport before as i got married in sri lanka.oh all those years of fun just flown by.
will post pics as ive got 4 under water cameras with me and you get quite good quality pics from them also got digital camera too.
will try and enjoy it

Do not change all your cash up into US dollars. You need Pound Sterling. I took Dollars and had to change them back into Sterling as nobody would take them. Sri Lanka is an ex British colony and Sterling still reigns absolutely supreme. You can use the local currency but the locals prefer it almost everywhere. |

well im back and very tired.
sri lanka was spot on for the weather and hotel.shame that the country hasnt got over the tsumani and has really taken its toll on the tourist trade.15 rooms taken in a 200 room hotel.all damaged now been repaired in the part i was stopping at.
things have changed since i was last there over 12 yrs ago.no oxford cambrigdes etc on the roads nor any elephants(now replaced by JCB's).
got pics of the elephants from the orphange and rode on a couple.will post some up when ive sorted thru them all.
maldives wasnt that good.hotel was average and the food was below par.it was the first time ive stopped on a very large island so back to the small ones next time.hardly any beach and the snorkelling around the reef was poor.did have fun with the ninga rats.bugger me jumping out of the trees and i did manage to kill one.
weather was excellent bar two real good storms but that cleared the air.
hopefully the underwater cameras have taken some good pics and will post a few up.
feet up now and a nice pint of guinness i think.
glad to be back to good old blighty
