Having only been here a month or so, I still have limited knowledge. From what I have read though, is it just me or are scammers more aware to scambaiters and their methods? I think they are getting more & more frustrated and maybe eventually they will stop?

Will it be eventually there will be no more scammers? Is that 419 eaters goal (eventually)?

Just typing my thoughts.

As long as there are gullible victims out there, the Lads will be keep on.
As mentioned elsewhere the EFCC in Nigeria have had 100 convictions in 4 years. It is thought that there are thousands of Lads, Vlads and Clads.
Lads will only get more refined, or more adventurous, spam out even more letters, the baiting fraternity only makes a small dent.
If the Authorities were serious about this the ability to mass mail would be taken away, sadly $$$ talks, I can't see the Lads moving on just yet.

TS, A "clad" is a "Covert Lad", one who is aware of IP's and has chosen an email provider that strips the IP's from the email headers. Didn't you get the memo? Laughing

The first recorded scam in history was recroded back in 2500BC and the first recorded advanced fee fraud case took place in 1588 (Spainsh Prisoner, fore-runner of the modern 419). We can have an effect to an extent, we can stop some people getting scammed but sadly not all of them. Also as more people have become aware of traditional 419 scams in recent years new ones have emerged, so the war carries on.

they collect some $200 mil per year from the States alone, why would they stop?
It might be hard work, but it pays well unless you have 15 times or more the same baiter in your list then you might feel it a bit Twisted Evil

But there is always room for more so join the gang and get a few pets that you copy and paste just for their entertainment Wink

Just don't get all mixed up and answer from the right addy, because some of them pay attention to that. Crying or Very sad

I had to find that out the hard way and lost a "good friend " that way Laughing

What we are doing here is PR and damage limitation. We are not in a position to stop all scamming. The most we can hope for in that direction is to put off a very few newbie scammers. A seasoned scammer does not get disillusioned when he realises that he has been baited, he gets angry at the baiter. The most we can hope to do is to drain his resources and make his life less easy. By far the more useful role we play is in spreading the word about scammers.

I was just thinking...would we be happy if all the lads actually did stop scamming? Sure it would be good for innocent victims, but we'd have to find a new hobby. What a predicament Confused

What would happen if someone of our persuasion took out a long list of valid lad addresses and seedcd them into Guest Books?

It's a shame that we can't stop it all, and it's a shame that they're getting smarter about it. On the other hand, there'll always be newbies to dissuade from the path of wickedness. Wink

I'm not sure. What would you expect to happen? More spam is about all I can imagine, plus I doubt the owners of the guest books would be very happy. At least that's how it seems to me.

(Now, if you wanted to seed a guest book with "clad" addresses that would be a whole differnt ballgame... Wink

They change addy's like we change clothes so all efforts to spam their accounts is useless after a few weeks/month. The best way is still to show them the bait and have them running after it. A day only has 24 hours, if I can have 30 minutes a week I'm slowing them down a bit and hoping that it costs them some money. Mass baits take up lots of their time and make them suspicious of everything so they slow them selves down, that's why I bait the same address several times at the same time. Just don't make them smarter Wink

More ought to be done. For instance, would it be so difficult for all the freemail providers to ban names starting in barr? I don't think they much care.

Hey MB money is money and you can't see how it's "made" That's what keeps economy going sadly enough Rolling Eyes
