Sorry,
But does anyone have a trick for cleaning these stupid flat screen monitors. I have a little scratch in one of mine and I don't know how to deal with it.
I could google the question, but lets face it. I'm lazy. I mean really lazy, if you tell me how to fix it, It will still take me a month to do it.
Thanks |

Acetone=Nail polish remover. And no, don't use acetone (or any type of spirit), unless you want a melted monitor. |

You can try those liquid touch ups designed to remove (or fill) scratches in reading glasses. Ive used them on my kids glasses and they works pretty good. They dont interfere with his prescription. I dont know how they would work on a monitor.
If you try it and it works out let me know because I have two scratches on my monitor. I think you can buy the stuff where ever they sell prescription glasses. Cost around $1.99.00 for a 1 Oz bottle. You can also buy it of the net.
The stuff I have is called liquid Lense |

Hi,
I don't post much, but I have looked into this for myself, and wanted to warn you: don't use Windex. Windex contains ammonia which apparently damages the LCD screen. A damp cloth is supposed to work fine.

If you use any kind of liquid or solution that has abrasive i.e. metal polish, toothpaste you can rub down the area around the scratch. The problem is you will create a shiny patch that will be even more annoying.
The best cleaner there is for glass and plastic is a 50/50 mix of water and methylated (dyed purple) spirit, applied with a soft duster. you just need to moisten it.
You may have to get a new film from the manufacturer if the scratch is too deep. |

Yuck, Acetone... I've used Acetone at work and it's unbearable, I would never use it on a monitor. Was nice to read about the effects it has after I used it .. |

Thanks for all the tips.
As it turns out, Mrs. B. A. is a genious. (who knew?)
I was discussing the issue with her and she looked at the monitor. She went into the bathroom (WC or whatever you call it over there) and came out with some very soft paper. I could see it was damp. She wiped the screen for a few seconds and VOILA, good as new. I asked her what the secret stuff was and she mumbled something about a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen, I think she called it h2o but I didn't understand the technical lingo. She claims that this secret liquid is quite abundant. As for the soft paper, she has rolls and rolls of it. She claims it is quite common as well.
Problem solved. Thanks again.
B. A. Ware
She also explained that the "scratch" was something more like "chocolate" |

We used to have a nice solvent. We used it for removing the sticky labels from EPROMs: Trichloro-TriFluro-Ethane. It turned your fingers white.
A few years ago I handed it over to the QA manager for disposal. I think he was impressed at just how illegal it was. |

Isoproylalchol is a winnar for removing sticky gluey stuff, but the best for removing brown packing tape - furniture polish - spray it on generously and leave for a bit, itll dissolve the tape in no time |

Any top tips on how to remove/prevent children from a permanent presence on my LCD?
I recently purchased a Sony Bravia telly, and my two children (aged 3 and 1) keep trying to paw at it...
Suggestions? Legal suggestions? |

The word "no", delivered with great gusto and/or "The Look" from either my parents generally seemed to do it for me... Have you not yet perfected the "You better knock that off, missy/sonny, I can burrow through the back of your skull from fifty meters away with my laser eyes" parental look? At least work on your "If you sit that close to the television, you'll ruin your eyes" speech.
Or build a small demilitarized zone perimeter around the television with child gates. Or a six sided steel cage.
Or you can try a squirt bottle or a water gun. Wait, that's cats... |

I had my LCD for two weeks before our friends kids (who all live with us - long story, but we're helping her out) sprayed hair detangling spray on it. I shouted so loud (it is now known as "The Dad Voice(tm)") she cried her eyes out till bed time. Whenever you ask the kids what the BIG rule of the house is, its always "Don't touch the telly." She was 4 and the boy was 2. A year later, and they still know the rules...
Damn Right. |
