A month ago I had a lump on my chest. Didn't want to go to the docs. Too worried. Then it got bigger. Then, when I eventually went ot the docs, she found another. It wasn't looking good. (Probrably why I've been a bit of a grumpy bum for the past month or so too!)
Anyway, I had to go for ultrasound to see what's going on. I was sh***ing myself.
The good news is, it's just a cyst and a bit of misplaced gristle. (Phew)
I was sooooo relieved, but I just wanted to say, check yourself regularly and if you find something that worries you, go to the docs straight away.
Don't do what I did!!

This is not just for the girls - I went through hell too when the very same happened to my wife.

First of all, glad to hear it was only a cyst ! Very Happy

I went through something similar about a year and a half ago. I had a very small, very hard lump that had been around for. . . . a year! It showed up toward the end of my time breastfeeding so at first I thought it was because of that. When it kept not going away, I finally asked a doctor. They immediately sent me to specialists. I know EXACTLY what you mean about almost SH**ing yourself while worrying through the process. Mine was also a benign cyst. But, how stupid of me to wait. All through the testing I kept thinking I was an idiot for waiting for so long.

I will echo your advice. If you find something, get it taken care of immediately!!!

Can I just pop in to suggest that you see your doctor regularly, even if you don't find something suspicious!

My wife had a small cyst removed from her right breast when she was 20 years old. Ever since then, she has been meticulous about doing breast self-examinations. When she turned 40, her doctor recommended a mamogram. My wife declined, thinking "I've never found a lump!"
After 5 years, her doctor insisted, so my wife had one done. What did they find? Pre-cancerous growth in two nodes in her left breast! Even after the mamogram, she could not feel a lump!
After surgery, chemo, and medication, her doctor has assured her of a complete recovery.

My oldest sister on the other hand, complained of pain and swelling in her stomach for over a year. She refused to see her doctor, thinking it was just 'female' problems. She finaly went to the doctor. The diagnosis - advanced ovarian cancer. The doctors said it could have been treated if found only 6 months earlier!
She died less than one year later, at the age of 44.

This advice shouldn�t be just for the ladies. I examine my wife once a month. I also make her sees the doctor regularly and get a pap once a year. She did have a mammogram a couple years ago (which was normal) but that was because of some cosmetic surgery she had.

If you make it 10 days on the smoking you're good! You'll still have cravings... but not so bad that you'd rip the head off a mugu to relieve the stress. Twisted Evil

Good luck on that and stay strong for at least a week. You'll notice a difference (little over a month for me and loving the fact that I can run again)

Also word to the guys under 35~ish since we're on cancer... girls aren't the only one that should check themselves out for lumps in mysterious places. Had a friend keel over from testicular cancer and when he did notice the lumps and pain it was to late as it was an aggressive form of cancer that just ate him up from the inside out.

Yep. Good luck with the no smoking guys.
If you can get past the first week it will get easier.
Gotta admit, I had my biggest test earlier today. I had a bit of driving to do and I always smoked in the car. I stopped at a garage and when I went to pay, there were lines of my favourite fags behind the cashier. I wavered. But I ended up paying for my petrol and buying a pack of Extra Strong Mints instead of giving in to the craving.
If I can get past something like that, believe me, you will be able to do it too.

My wife did the surgery, chemo, radiation fun cruise to hell too. She's 5 years free next month. Keep an eye on yourselves, everyone!

It's not just the ladies. When I went in for my snip (2 kids is enough thank you!!) the doctor found a lump on my left testicle. I had to have the scans, then wait 6 weeks over the Christmas/New Year period until I was given the all clear. Guys, check your women out. Girls, check your guys out. Everyone, check yourselves out regularly.

Amen to that. Also don't forget a yearly prostate check after 40. My dad died at 53 of prostate cancer. He was "old school" and never got it checked. Its not pleasant, but just do it. (Its only weird the first time Wink

)

Men can get breast cancer too! I think it's less common because we, obviously, have smaller breasts. Same theory I suppose why Testicular cancer is less common in Women (although the Glasgow Women leave a question mark over that one!).
