My heart goes out to the families of the deceased. Losing a member of one's family and/or close friend can be a very painful experience.

My mother died of complications from Pulmanory Hypertension in Houston Texas this past March 10 and I am still dealing with the fallout (it is hard to describe the difficulty in sorting through her personal effects in her house ... which to keep and which to throw away).

I know of one person who recently left VT to pursue an acting career in Los Angeles. One of her best friends was killed in yesterday's shootout (if you're on Facebook, facebook him as Ryan Clark @ Virginia Tech or look at my friend's Facebook group on Ryan: linky)

I read about it this morning and listened to some comments just an hour ago. The term they used was "das blutigste.. " and they compared it to other massacres ...
They said (this was last night) ... the next comments will be about prohibiting the possession of weapons and then prohibit video games. And then: It would be better to care for people and worry about their problems.
When I remeber my studies ... I'd never thought about that.
That's so sad...
There should be some video made of a fellow student of those victims, and I heared those shots on the radio and I really don't want to see this video nor it to be spread via the net.

I cannot add anything else except to say all of our thoughts and wishes are with the families and students caught up in this tragic incident . Crying or Very sad

This is tradgic still here for me - I know many people that go to, have gone to and also work at Virginia Tech.

I sitll have these thoughts what if i was down there on X day? what if he decided to shoot on the drill field (a great place to relax with the notebook or a book.. ona warm day)

Radio here has throw out the nromal format and soild people calling and talking about it -

It is going to be awhile for this area to recover..

Lessons unlearnt.
I have children. Which frightens me the most? That they would be the perpetrators or the victims? I don't know. I just wish the world would shut up and listen.

Well turns out today - a good friend of mine knew someone that was killed in this .

And the little *&*%#$ was Cho Seung-Hui that killed those people -

Words are very hard to find for something like this. I have a daughter in college (not Virginia, but if it happened there, it could probably happen anywhere) and I live in a university town so it's all too easy to imagine that sort of thing happening locally, unfortunately. . .

I saw the map for that school, and I saw how large it is with my university. Since I take a hodgepodge of everything at university, I realized that if this happened at my school, I might've been one of the statistics involved. I didn't sleep too well last night because of this fact...

its a very large campus - althought dorms and the classes buildings are close - they do have a lot of land where they teach Farming Technology as well.

A problem is that older people don't listen to youngsters. They see them as something to be scared of, yet don't like trying to be inclusive or tolerant. I saw it with my former in laws. That's scary.

And then these tragedies occur in which decent people with a bright future ahead of them are senselessly killed. It's a tragedy that the loner who killed so many only had the imagination to destroy and not create. What does that say about our societies?

What the hell is the matter with some people? I simply don't understand what would cause someone to go onto a campus, or ANYWHERE for that matter, with the intention of MURDERING people they don't even know! I hope there is a hell and I hope that murderer rots in it! He wasted so many's potential by butchering those poor people.

i wish i had enough faith in humanity to believe a lad wouldnt stoop so low as to use this but after the Hurricane Katrina and Facing Africa scams, i wont be surprised to see one.

Sadly we live in a violent world. You only have to look at the events in Iraq today to see that.

It seems to me that the right to bare arms carries it's risks as well as its responsibilities. You just have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and well..it doesn't bear thinking about. In a country of 200m people, say there are 1% that are mentally unstable or mentally ill. Of those, say half of them have access to firearm, and of those half have a grudge however slight against somebody or 'society'. I'll leave you to do the math.

The thing about guns is that if you are so inclined you can kill somebody relatively easily without any real emotional involvement, unlike say with a knife, which requires some close and real personal physical contact. Couple this with a culture that glorifies violence through rap music, films and video games then such things are going to happen.

Guns don't kill people, other people do. Sadly.

My thoughts are with the bereaved and injured people's families.

I was thinking of a serious flashmob of their websites as a method of protest. I've told the people on other forums, and they seem to like the idea...
