I was trying to sell something on loot, less than 100 and genuinly thought it was real, gave them my name (to put on cheque) and full address(i stated it was pick up only) he then sent mail saying 'when the check clears we'll sort out shipping cost' that's when i realised. So, obviously i won't go any further, i just want to know if anything could come from giving my home address?

Sorry, should have been clearer, i'm not trying to bait him. Just that i was a bit paranoid because i live in london, but they're not likely to insist on taking it any further with 100 to gain. Are they?

Hey Charlie,
Welcome to Eater!!

The main rule is that if they have any personal information about you...AT ALL, stop all contact immediately.
Don't tell them you know it's a scam, don't tell them anything. Just drop them and they will get bored and leave you alone.
I'm so pleased to hear you discovered this was a scam before you lost any money, good on ya Wink
I wouldn't worry too much, mugus are lazy little gits. Once they know you're not playing the game, they'll move on and leave you alone.

Honestly, I believe you're quite safe, so don't go putting the 'For sale' sign up just yet!!

Read as much as you can on Eater and you'll find that there are many, many people who got scammed and came out the other end safe. (But most of them were out of pocket)

So, come on in, pull up a chair and get reading. If you wanna take it further, sign up for a mentor and then enjoy the game from a great, safe height!! Very Happy

Thanks for the info, it does sound like lots of fun. So, now that i'm not selling up, does anyone have any juicy stories of people giving out addresses and being paid a visit?

Wasn't there someone who used their work fax number in a bait and had a couple of guys arrive at his work asking for him by his baiting name?

Charlie, welcome aboard.

I think IMHO Les Noise above has it right--drop the bait right away and move on. If they know where you truly are--especially London, where they have many bag-men and contacts--there's no sense and security in baiting them any further.

Here across the pond I am fortunate to live within 6km/4m of a state-line. This makes it easy for me to maintain a PO Box in 'the other state' for the mugus, separate from my real home address should they ask me...As it is, the majority of my baits situate me thousands of miles from where I am to begin with.

My point is that I'm sure there are postal drop-offs in The UK that you can rent by the month/year etc for a pittance w/o revealing your true home address. And you'll sleep better at night knowing they don't know where you are.

Charlie,

I have been baiting for 4 years and have read shivers stuff for more than that. Shivers inspired me to become a baiter.

I finally signed up for this board because of your post. I have been an inactive reader for years

Les Noise, It wasn't me, and icrightthrU are right. Drop it. Don't have any further contact with this guy (or Guyman)

Give the Guyman's address to us and we will keep him too busy to worry about you.

They pay attention to those who may give them money, NOT those who stop responding.

Don't lose any sleep over this.

@ Charlie.

Like everyone says, drop him immediately , but don't lose his email address as you can always bait him later. If he's a genuine UK lad, you can have some fun with him by sending him to webcams and the like.

Try Googling his address to see if he's been up to anything else.

Nope, true story.

However, the guy is not going to do anything to you. He will not show up at work or wherever. Just quit emailing him. The amount is only 100 pounds and if you are not baiting him, it is definitely par for the course. He has people drop him all the time, don't worry.

Welcome and have a look around.

I remember reading the post. The bloke used his work's fax number and a couple of big gorillas (gorilla in the sense of big, well muscled men with little brain or ability other than to kick the living shit out of) showed up asking for his baiting name. Fortunately, the receptionists handled the situation, but it did happen.
