Never seen Serenity, but agree about Blade Runner. Just the total look of the film makes it something special. |

Never heard of Serenity. Let's vote for the 419eater's Best SF movie.
Blade Runner #1 for me too!

WOO-HOO!!! That's my movie!!(where Jayne Cobb comes from) Hell's yeah!! If you haven't seen it, you should really watch the 14 episode TV series Firefly first, because Serenity is a follow-up.
*does the happy dance*
Though, personally, I couldn't pick a favorite sci-fi movie, I've seen way too many that I like. |

Apples to oranges- both movies are very good, but shouldn't be compared to each other. |

Serenity is a fun movie, mostly/especially if you were a fan of Firefly, but there's no way it should even be on that list. Firefly fans are, shall we say, very dedicated to their show |

Surprised there's no Star Trek in the list!
Dark Star is such an underated film, loved the beach ball alien in it.
I agree it would be difficult to choose a top 10
Some films weren't as good as they should have been eg X files movie, and Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy was ok as a film but I heard it first on the radio and nothing has quite lived up to the pictures in my head |

Dune (1983) - classic. And the Vin Diesel stuff, Pitch Black and Riddick - brilliant. And of course Stargate {sigh}... |

Forbidden Planet would have been a great film, but I saw Leslie Nielson in Airplane first. Never been able to get beyond the first few minutes of FB without cracking up. |

Blade Runner for me. It looks like that 'cos it was all shot at 4am in the rain, which is why the cast don't look happy, and Harrison Ford wont talk about the film.
I like the way that, as in my No' 2 film, Star Wars, and No. 3, Alien all give the future a distressed careworn look, unlike most SF films where the future is gleaming.
Dark Star is best of the rest, LOL at the beachball, and the talking bomb.
Has anyone here seen the winner? |
