I fly helicopters and as an engineer know how this is designed and still thinking about this makes my hands sweat. I know it is more than safe, but still, it is a long way down.

Whew! I'd be up for it. I didnt mind standing on the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge, what I didnt like was looking up at the flagpole above me - made me feel giddy!

A lot less high at 134m, but anything over a few dozen feet is going to kill you if you plummet....

It might be safer to do it now, after a few years of wear, tear and geology, who knows how safe it'll be?

I was actually involved on the insurance for the floor as St Gobain was a client at the time.

One of the original plans were to have an entirely glass constructed pier jutting out 100 feet.... Shocked

what a shame they didn't go for it

had no problems with Capilano Suspension Bridge
shame they cant span something similar across the grand canyon

I saw this on the forum a week or two ago, this picture from DrWho's link looks a bit bit misleading to me:

To me, that is saying, look how high we are, 4000ft in the air, but where the bridge is located, if you were to fall off if, you would not drop 4000ft vertically, below it, there admittedly is a big drop, but if you were to drop, you would land on a slope, not a 4000ft sheer drop, or am I just being picky Very Happy

Personally I loathe heights and depths.
A family member came back from New York with some cracking pics of the place and some from top of the Empire State building. They made sure I was sitting down before viewing them.

(it's a bit of a handicap for a broom flying witch tho' Laughing

I would go on it, you gotta take some risk in life and if the bridge collapses, your name will be in the global newspaper. What more could you ask for? I'm sure they knew what they were doing. I'm sure someone will end up committing suicide on it, just to have the designers look at what went wrong and to get their name in the paper.

I was just at the Grand Canyon last week, with three girls aged 4 to 8, who insisted on running around near the edge every chance they got. I think the skywalk would be safer.

I've been on top of the Empire State Building - probably like everyone and their aunt - and I think that I would go on the SkyBridge. To look down past your feet at the bottom of the Grand Canyon would be a once in a life time event and will be something that you will remember for the rest of your life.

I should mention that I too am scared of heights. I once crapped myself climbing into my house through the window. I had forgotten my keys and needed to break into my home.

This is so cool. When the crowds go down, and I do hope for the Tribe that there are crowds, I'll go. Seems the perfect kind of place to take the relatives that just must see the Grand Canyon yet are bored after thirty seconds. I can stand there for hours watching the colors change. The distances are larger at the South Rim but with the pollution the visibility is off.

@DrWho, I don't know why this would bother you. All you have do is to remember is to push the collective all the way down as soon as the skyway starts breaking up.

Edit--- Hey, what's happening with the grammar. Is this a AFJ? Oh well. Make me look as stupid as I am. Me myself.

I did actually take a flight in a 2 seater over the Grand Canyon in my younger days....

Can't say that I really saw much though as most of the flight I was hurling into a sick bag........ Embarassed

There's a large glass floor at the top of the CN tower in Toronto! I've walked on that a few times, although it always takes me a moment to pluck up courage to step on it initially. It's a great view looking down the curving side of the tower. Laughing

There's a "walk of faith" glass for at the top of that HUGE(!) erection (no, not Bigal) Blackpool Tower. I recall posting a picture of me on it in this forum around a year ago. That is of course kid stuff compared to the GC bridge.
