I have a question.

I have seen quite a few news reports on scambaiting and it seems like they never show any of the really good trophy pics. Sure, sign pictures are great and all, but we have moved so far past that now. Why not show off some of the security-verification or face urination trophies?

Did you guys discuss these things with the news reporters beforehand?

When I got home after the interview, I realized that we had only touched on about 1% of what scambaiting is all about. We never got around to talking about all of the different kinds of baits, like check scams, roomate scams, love scams, recovery scams, etc, etc...or all of the newer trophy pics and forms...or such services as 1TV5 and Western Union Customer Disservice... Wink

I sent Bob Tarlau an e-mail telling him that I could easily give him a few hours worth of material to share with his viewers. He thanked me, but basically said, "There's only so much info that can be packed into a four minute segment."
He did promise, however, that he'd be in touch with us if the powers that be want another segment.

I also told him that we could do a whole story on the different kinds of scam and how they work and how to recognize them. Actually a mentioned it a few times, so he knows.

He picked all that stuff after the interview. I, at least, had nothing to do with what they picked for show. We went through the picture gallery quickly and they added those on in post production. They probably pick pictures that are on the first few pages and that are not too radical. And it has to very visual as it is TV and shots are not more than 5 seconds. Usually shorter so it has to tell a story by itself.

I was also wondering why some of the pictures weren't even real trophies, but if THEY picked what pictures to use then that explains it. I guess they were in a hurry or something. I am glad that they used my check scans though Cool

I too wish that there could be a full report on scambaiting. There has been so much awesome stuff that has rolled through this website that would make for great television. You could do a 2 hour special and never have a boring part. I was just telling my brother that the only sad thing about scambaiting is that there are so many people in the world who miss out on the wacky crap that we experience here.

The only thing about a 2 hour special though, is this: We are weird. Most of the population stares blankly at the mention of such a hobby. I think that a photo of someone �milking a bull� or getting �urinated on� would only make us more deviant to the outside observer. We definitely don�t want anything negative portrayed about us. But I do think that there are �better� trophies, as you say. I remember the time I saw the mugu with a fish on his head. Laughed for hours. Then I read about the mugu that went to Scotland and got him filmed. That made me laugh for days. So there are a lot of things that are �deeper� than the regular trophy photos, but any exposure is good.

I like it that baiters were referred to as "cyber good samaritans" I never liked the common analogy that we are "online vigilantes" as it makes it sound like we are some kind of unruly mob.

Great work guys, a good advert for what we do.

hey - it's nice to see that I'm not the only "old fart" involved in this.

When I first came to this site I thought that the majority of baiters were young punks, but I'm wondering if the majority of baiters are old codgers like me that tell kids to not walk on their lawn and call the home owners association when someone leaves trashcans on the curb after trash pickup.

(and I never thought "bread on your head" was that funny until I heard it on the newscast. )
