Two years ago, the woman and I were introduced to a young woman named Liat. She was recently discharged from the Isreali army, she was brilliant, friendly, and she needed some financial support to finish her education in the US. We allowed her to stay in a spare bedroom for a couple sememsters, provided her with a bit of cash, and the SO was finally able to secure her a scholarship for her last year. I saw her last weekend at a formal dance and she was a bit nervous about the applications she had sent for graduate school. I got this email from her today...

I just wanted to drop a quick line and let you know that with the Honors
College assistance, following this trip to Washington DC (yesterday!), I
have been offered a summer position with the U.S. House Committee on
Homeland Security with a joint appointment on the Subcommittee for
Emerging Threats (nuclear issues, terrorism etc.) and on the Subcommittee
on Intelligence & Information Sharing. So, it looks like I will be spending
my summer in DC! Please, XXXX, you must to promise to write � I�m
not sure how I�ll survive without the constant laughs you�ve provided since we
met. I can�t begin to express my gratitude to you and XXXXXXXX for your
support and friendship over the last two years.

Also good news - other than an offer of admission from NYU, I have
received an offer from Columbia University in NYC for my number one
program at the School of International & Public Affairs (SIPA)! This
program is ranked 3rd or 4th in the nation and is truly an amazing
opportunity to make a difference.

Many more pending applications to hear back from for both graduate schools
and scholarships, but in the meantime this is all good news that I wanted
to share with you as you have been instrumental in my success!
