Has anyone ever been warned about a scammer?

I'm in the process of working with a scammer using two personalities. The second personality, the one that is supposedly falling for the scam, just received an email purportedly from a friend or acquaintance of the scammer, telling me that they are in fact a man not a woman, etc.

I wasn't expecting this at all! Has anyone else seen this? If it's a double bluff of some kind, it's clever. I mean, I know they're a fraud already, that's why I am playing them along - but as far as the scammer and this other person (if it is another person) is concerned I'm falling for it - because I'm a 'stupid white man'.

The weird thing is all three people I have dealt with are using the SAME computer. The 'customs man' and the scammer must be the same person. But what about this person warning me off, but using the same computer? Of course if it's someone with a guilty conscience that lives with the scammer, it makes sense.

I hope I explained that well enough. What do people reckon?

A possible explaination could be that your lad never logged off in the internet cafe or some other lad with a grudge has seen your addy over his shoulder and is wreaking his jobs.

Could be. It would be weird for the scammer to warn me off - unless they then get me to reply to them and they can use an even more elaborate "oh no I'm honest" line.

I would write the warner back and tell them "thanks for the warning, I'm baiting this scammer."

I've had a lad use it on me, pretending to be a poor teenage girl held in bondage by my lad, she warned me away, but I ignored her.

Strange that her temper and grammatical structure were a tad similar to those of the lad.

'She' also used the same computer.

I've avoided doing that in case it is the same person. I'm happy to get into dialogue with mutliple personalities with my multiple personalities, on two different email systems, Skype, and Yahoo IM !!

I don't know why they do it either but they did it to mee too. I just carry on chatting to both of them like I don't know which one is lying.

I think I've found which model agency they've nicked the photo from. They didn't even bother to crop the copyright message, then tried to pixelate it to make it unreadable, but am pretty sure its ChampionEyePhotography.com though I can't find the actual model now.

I doubt a scammer was the person who emailed you.

I agree with the others - may have been another lad or even an innocent person at the cafe - seeing this over the lad's shoulder - and then trying to be nice and warn you.

Anyway - there's really no way to tell. I'd just carry on with the bait.

Baiters do receive legit warnings from time to time that come from established anti-scam organizations, but they do not look anything like the warning you got. I think that what you received may have just been somebody in the internet cafe who peeped over the scammer's shoulder and took note of your email address so that he could warn you. You should thank him.

You don't know if this is legit or not.

I'd thank him and carry on with the bait. See what happens.

If it is a legit warning you don't want to get this person in trouble by continuing to exchange mail with him/her or revealing to your main target that you've received a warning about him!

If it isn't. Write that thank you note and carry on as normal with your main target.

It must be the same lad, or two lads that hang around together, for I heard nothing from them yesterday then they both wrote to me within about 10 minutes of each other. Yeah, right.

I have gotten the standard warning from an anti-scam group several times before. Every version I have seen bears absolutely no resemblence to what you were sent. I agree with what E_D said and simply carry on the bait.

You're assuming it's the same computer because the IP addies match, right? Every machine in the cybercafe will have the same external IP via the cafe router, and I think this is a decent cafe user who hates what the lads do, and is genuinely trying to help you. Either that, or another cafe user who just hates this lad.

I am new to this (although I have three rippers on the go at the moment!), but my first impression on this is that they could be the same lad in an attempt to win your trust. He warns you off the first alter ego, in an attempt to prove what an honest and reliable individual he is.

Then again, I could also be in Noddyland..........
