I searched this site and the web, I read the FAQ, and I couldn't find the anwer anywhere. What is the origin of calling scammers "lads"?

Lads from Lagos.

It's a pet name for them, since many of them come from that area - Like yahoo yahoo boys. I remember reading that in a few articles. Lads is just a bit shorter.
