OK, there's good news and bad news!

The good news is that I have converted the Audio CD to MP3 and the two tracks they sent are below.

The bad news is that the VHS tape is in NTSC format, which my video player can't play (we're PAL here), however all is not lost as a quick telephone call to a friend means that I'll have the NTSC player here later today.

Here are the two tracks from the audio CD they supplied:

I am reliably informed that Nigeria also use PAL, which is strange. The video does play on my machine, but only in B+W (sound is fine). Maybe they didn't have a colour camera? I'll go ahead and encode it anyway. There will be a few hours delay as sadly I have to get real work out of the way first Sad

I'll get some screen caps up ASAP though/

Wow! I can't wait for the video. It was actually pretty good. One would almost feel sorry for the lad and the upcoming burnage (is that a word?) if one didn't know he was a scammer.

I'm with Homer. The Xylophone was a nice touch.

The first one, sung as such, was actually quite good (but also made me laugh because it reminded me of how "Down With The Sickness" was sung at the end of Dawn of the Dead by Lounge Against The Machine!) This is one of those songs that is going to replay over and over in my head while I'm at work today.

It's actually performed by Richard Cheese, Lounge against the Machine is the name of the album it's on. She should check out some of his other covers, they're hilarious. His cover of Shake Ya Ass is great too and my favourite of all is his cover of Creep by Radiohead.

OK, the video IS in PAL and does play on my machine. What we have is a 2nd or 3rd generation copy, and that is what is causing the problem. The colour signal can't be very strong and drops out a lot and the first 20 minutes plays in B+W (this led me to wrongly believe I was watching an NTSC tape), however in the 2nd half of the tape it appears fairly stable and the colour returns for most of it.

I'd say there was about 45 minutes of tape, split into three sections. The first section is a very dull recording of a group of about 20-30 people doing some general church singing. The second part is a small room with a group of about 15 people rehearsing the YMCA song, and the last part is the actual performance.

I'll start work on the transfer in a couple of hours. My friend is still bringing his all singing all dancing machine as apparently it has all manner of knobs you can twitch to try to get the best out of the tape, so perhaps we can get the colour working properly Smile

The CD has been uploaded for listening to, but the video was recorded in a different format to what he have in the UK, my friend is in the process of converting it so that it is viewable online, and it will then be uploaded to YouTube for viewing.

That would be a good idea if I knew how to do that, but there might be legal problems in that I only know the lad is a scammer, the others for all I know are not, so they might be able to make a claim if it was released, although, I am sure I could get a written document with all their signatures allowing for it to be distributed at the producers whim Very Happy

The video quality is piss poor SP (I would definitely complain to your lad about it and demand the original!). I though the dead parrot video was shitty quality, but this beats it!

It is definitely at least a 3rd gen copy, not the original, and I'm guessing the cameraman was drunk also! It's very interesting and fully to watch though, especially the guy with the harmonica/keyboard type instrument which is connected with a rubber pipe that he blows into!

Anyway, I'll have a few screen captures ready in the next hour or so, and a upload friendly video a couple of hours after that.
