new scam

Im going to tell you about a new scam to hit brisbane australia - i was contacted by a person called trena newman via a posting i had through GenesReunited

Im currently looking for my father, he left my mother at my age of 1. he was born uk so i posted the posting in the uk section of this site - i was then contacted by trena newman telling me that she worked for a barister in the uk & found that my father had left me a huge estate.

I replyed to this email as i was interested in knowing what he had left me & where the money was. after numerious emails & phone calls she advised me to pay $3000 to secure the certificate which she emailed me showing the name of my father & what she wanted me to do she wanted the money to be wired via western union

Stupidly I sent $1500 via western union which was sent to a lady in Ireland. after 2 days when i did not hear anything I rung Trena Newman who the told me the money was stuck in singapore with customs & I had to pay $4000 to get the customs officer to give it to me - she then told me I had to pay if within 48hr or it would be lost.

Then the penny dropped & I then began questioning her where is the money comming from why was it us $ & why was it on singapore she told me the origianal amount i sent helped her buy a ticker to australia where she was bringing the money to me but she was stopped by customs I had to pay more money to get the money & her out of singapore - i rant customs in singapore who of cause knew nothing of what i was talking about.

I rang her back & got a new voice on the phone telling me he was the man in singapore customs & if i wanted to see the money I had to pay the extra money when I refused to pay anoymore he then told me MY sick son at the time would die from cancer because i would hold up the money to help him get well, & my father's estate would be lost forever - when i asked to speak to Trena he refused to let her on the phone telling me not to ring her until i had the rest of the money they asked for.

I agreed to send $800 to get Trena to australia where i could see the certificate, & have no more to do with them - I sent the money via western union again after 2 days of not hearing anything I rang her again she then told me the customs officer let her go but the money was still in singapore.

I rang the numbers she gave me for the customs bloke got a voice telling me not to send anymore money to trena only him i then told him there was no more money - I wouldnt be sending anymore i wanted offical customs from australia to deal with this transaction he hung up on me - when i tried to redail the number it was ingaged.

Ive emailed her constantly getting no where, Ive rung her number's they have been disconnected & I'm out of pocket for $2300...which I couldnt afford to send via western union - what have I learnt? Well I'm no closer to finding my father these parasites now go into these web pages cornering people like me looking for missing relatives.

My son is still no closer to been cured its not as if the money was going to cure him but it would of made life more comfortable for him. whjile we go through his chemo sessions.plus finding my father would have filled a void in my life & his.

I hope you will look into this scam - & get them - I know I will never see the money again & I've cut my losses - but these sick inderviduals need to be caught they are now useing personal postings for family now - I wish you all the very best of luck in getting these bastards..

I'm so sorry to hear about this Ozgal. As you now know, it was a scam all along. Its a variation on what is known as a "next of kin" scam, and a sick one at that. That said, I now have to warn you about money recovery scams, as I expect you will be hearing from a recovery scammer sooner or later. These people will email you, posing as the EFCC or another law enforcement agency, and tell you that the scammers who took your money have been caught, and you are due several thousand dollars in restitution. Of course, this will be someone from the same gang that scammed you in the first place who is trying to squeeze more money out of you.

You may also be contacted by the original scammer (or someone else), who will offer your "inheritance" via a cheque, money order, or wire transfer. He will tell you to bank the cheque and wait for it to clear (or wait for the wire transfer), and then send him whatever bullshit "fee" he can come up with via WU or Moneygram. Make no mistake, the cheque or money order WILL be fake or stolen. In the case of a wire transfer, the funds will come from a compromised account or another scam victim. Sooner or later, the the cheque will bounce or the transfer will be reversed, and you will not only be left on the hook for the entire amount, but you could even find yourself facing prosecution for cheque kiting or money laundering.

These scammers have no morals and no soul. Once you have paid, they will keep after you as long as they can to try to get more out of you.

wow - i didnt realise how big these things where - im grateful for the reply & knowing what i do now i will look out for new emails from these people. I hope someone does catch these scammer's they dont deserve to walk the same eaerth as us - yep i know im stupied for falling for the scam in the first place - but i did think it was real as it came from a posting i did in genesreunited - from what ive read from other people giving them money im lucky in a way i only lost a few thousand & no more
if i do hear back from these scammer's i will post the emails as to show other people to be careful - thanks

Not at all, this is a profession for them and they are very good at it. They look for people with something they can exploit (your father in this case) then structure often very elaborate scams around it.

Even peole who have knowledge of standard 419 scams still fall for love scams, people who know of those fall for fake mobile phone/pets selling scams etc..

Many people pay a lot more, so you were very lucky in that respect.

The best thing you can do is post your story and details of the scammers involved so that you can help educate others to not fall for the same scam.

Being that this developed from a posting at GenesReunited, I would let their webmaster know that their website is being used in conjunction with scams.

I have emailed the site webmaster in genesreunited, I also emailed the lawyer in which she claimed she worked for He had no knowlage of her. I did manage to ring another barrister who was to have held the estate he knew nothing of what i was talking about but promised to look into what his firm was being used for. needless to say I havnt heard anything back from him or the other lawyer.
I have tried her yahoo email address but they bounce now- I have tried phoning the "customs" number in singapore buy they no longer know what im talking about ive tried a trace on the ireland address that the first money went too nothng. I even tried to give the story to Today Tonight here in brisbane they didnt seem too interested in the story because i didnt loose enough money - I dont know how much they wanted me to loose before it was a "story to them" But I thought people should know that these poeple where now useing family blogs to conn people..I have also rang One of the numerous numbers in which she first gave me & the man i spoke too "seemed to be upset I couldnt find her " yea & i guess if i stayed on the line long enough he proberly would of had me giving him money -

Be wary about baiting them yourself as they would appear to have real information. It is likely that your details have been passed on to other scammers as well. Do not send any more money via Western Union to ANYBODY. It is just not safe and is expensive anyway. Sorry to say but the chances you will see any of your money again are virtually nil.

Put whatever information you have about this scam in here.
Their telephone numbers, addresses, email headers, names and any other contact info that they gave you.

Like everyone else here, I'm so sorry for what has happened to you. Maybe we can get a group of experienced baiters together to give these guys a trip round the block. They won't be able to get your money back for you, but they might be able to make life difficult for the scammers.

Hi Ozgal, Please don't post the information for everyone. You'll end up with 20 new members trying to bait them. If you wish the strike to be surgical, it would be better to PM the information to a moderator, who can do something with it. If you would be willing to discuss the details in private I may be able to help you regards of getting you to tell your story to a national audience. Help others not become victims.

Not with the scammer directly, but victim support. I'm in a position of some influence in regards to the television and radio media. Occasionally it's good to be able to use contacts to reach a wider audience. It's rare when people like Ozgal come forward and tell their stories. It's brave, and to be commended. I'd rather the scammer not be inundated with baiter's just yet. Wink

Sorry to hear. I am glad you did not lose more money. Apart from passing details to NN, i think you should also pass all the details to the experienced baiters. I somehow think these guys have never been baited before. A co-ordinated bait would teach them a lesson. I am guessing that the scammers are resident in Singapore, Ireland and Australia so dismantling thier network in these countries would require the best from eater.

as im new here I dont know who the baiters are & who & where to post the information I have given information via email to NN & ip freely who have left mesg - If someone could advise me who are PM? or master baiters I dont understand the lingo used here either. if they could email me then i will pass on information thanks again for all advise & help Smile

@Ozgal - So, so sorry to hear what happened. They really are lower than
the dribble from a weasels arse.

@nurse nasty - When you've sorted these bastards in anyway shape or form (ie:hanging, burning etc maybe a tattoo with "I am a superphlous flap of skin" or something....) can you please post an update? I really would love to see some of the master baiters go to town with their remains.
