Whee! I've been working my arse off lately and I really needed some time off from work - not to mention from the family.
For the last year or so I really haven't had a REAL vacation. I've been only housing some relatives and spending my few days of freedom drinking beer.

My wife spent a week at her friends' in France a couple of years ago and now I felt that I should use my GetAwayFromHome -card. My wife said that as I've been working so hard and as I've been really sweet with the kids I have deserved some time of my own.

So, I went and booked flights to Thailand and back.
The things I'm taking with me: passport, toothbrush, cam, hammock, sunglasses and my VISA card.

Can you recommend any places that I should visit over there, or do you have any requests that might help you in baiting?
I'll be spending two weeks over in Thailand and the places I'm definitely going to visit are the KSR (Khao San Road - the backpacker ghetto) and Koh Phangan.

Few things BK: first of all, have FUN!!!! You are not seriously taking requests from the buggers here, are you? Just enjoy your time, relax and come back refreshed.

And erm......... Thailand, don't be afraid to try the cooking. Meals are delicious, especially the fish dishes. Just be cautious with eating anything that might harm you, such as drinking the tap water.

One thing is for sure - I will be having fun during the trip.
If someone has any requests, I'll see if they are easy enough to achieve. If not - fuk 'em.
I don't really eat fish, for some strange reason I don't like the taste of it. I guess I will have to try the snacks over there then - the worms, crickets, bugs and scorpions Laughing

I don't know about the last two, but I'll definitely try the worms and crickets (I'll post some photos here after I return).

This can cause severe problems in Thailand. You'd be AMAZED who has what and where.

Beautiful country, lovely people, fantastic food, fasctinating culture but take plenty of Immodium Crying or Very sad

And be cautious of anyone who instantly becomes your New Best Friend and asks you to deliver a package for them.

@persephone - I've heard snake tastes like chicken. In Cambodia they are selling booze with snake stuffed inside of the bottle. I wonder if they have those in Thailand also.

@badkarma, I recommend you visit Singapore 1st before u leave for Thailand.. Singapore enviroment is much more better than Thailand.. And Singapore have Sentosa where your family and you can enjoy.. And with IR is on the way (will be complete on 2009), I'm sure you'll get nowhere but Singapore..

BadKarma, we (me, wife, two teenagers) spent two weeks in Thailand, mostly Bangkok and Phuket, this past summer. I've been there alone in the past. Be sure to do your research on the local scammers before you go! Being a baiter will really serve you well there, especially when you get the folks who try to send you to a jewelry shop that is only open once a year, and coincidentally that day happens to be TODAY!! I was able to make use of the skills I'd read about here, and several jewelry shops sent their cars to pick me up at the Oriental Hotel when I couldn't decide on which gem to purchase and needed to think about it overnight (of course, I was staying at the Best Western - highly recommended, plenty of good "street" restaurants nearby!).

Where will you be going while in Thailand? I'm jealous.

@BadKarma..speaking as one who lives and plays in Thailand...if it's your 1st visit over here...be warned "You will not return home the same person" Laughing

@Krona - Bangkok and Koh Phangan for sure, but as I've got only two weeks to spend over there and if Koh Phangan is even close to a place I've imagined, I just might get stuck over there.

Thanks to Cherrie for the tips so far. I might have some more questions later, but I think I'm pretty well "equipped" for now.
