Did I just hear on the Weather Channel that there is going to be a great lunar eclipse night or tomorrow .. ????? ...Blushing Moon ???
I've only got a short lens ... any personally taken pix would be appreciated ......
Any comments about me watching the Weather Channel will be ignored. |

I'm not a specialist on the subject, but from what I gather, only total lunar eclipses are worthwhile (especially for amateur photography), and it depends on your location whether you'll be able to view it properly (aside from clouds...)

If you're in America, (excepct for Alaska and some little dot (Hawaii?), then you can see the eclipse at moonrise tomorrow. If you live anywhere between Greenland, Saudi Arabia and the real south pole, then you can see the full thing all night (it is fully eclipsed at about 10-11 PM GMT), and if you live anywhere from India to New Guinea, you can see it at moonset. Elsewhere, you can't see it.

@spotthepot : if you google 'lunar eclipse computer' and go to the first hit, you can check whether you can see (or how good you can see..) the lunar eclipse from where you live. If you live in the states you enter your state and city, if not you need to enter longitudes and latitudes and stuff like that (although with google earth you should be able to get those quickly).
Haven't had time yet to check for myself (just got home from a work's party ... and can't be arsed now), but I'll have a look tomorrow and if I can get a decent shot tomorrow I'll post it.....here!  |

According to the weather forecast things are looking good !
I won't go the pub, I'll do my drinking this afternoon (somehow seems to help with my manual focus ).

Considering the large amount of black clouds we have had here for the last couple of days, tonight there is not a cloud in the sky over the English Channel, I have been watching it out of my window for about the last 40 minutes, totally forgot about the eclipse until abut 10:40, it was nearly covered at that time, and is now a nice orangey red colour, the moon is still completely eclipsed for the last 30 minutes or so, thought it would have been over quicker than that, wish I had a camera to capture it. |

I recall a Christmas some years ago when I got surprised by an unannounced lunar eclipse - just a dark red orb looming large in the miht sky; it was a good few seconds before I twigged.
Last October, a LARP (live action roleplaying) event was given a special boost by a freaky red moon, thanx to bushfires:
