I'm pretty sure a filipino friend of mine is getting a job offer scam. I don't have all the details, my reasoning involves the "If it sounds too good to be true (6500 pounds/month for customer service call center work), a *.yahoo.co.uk address for a "Work Permit Department" and several spelling errors, informalities and odd style and formatting choices in her acceptance letter. She called and got what she thought was an Indian or Pakistani accent, not a West African accent. She may have been fooled or uncertain on this point.

I asked for but didn't get a header for her email that was quoted below. i also haven't finished probing for information about hwo she found this offer. The whole thing stinks of "lad" but i am not sure. She already sent in a CV so she has some risk and I would like to be able to be uncompromising when I tell her that this is crap. I hope to update this with full headers and more info soon, but can any of the UK team tell me exactly why this is wrong? She wants to believe it, but neither is she a fool, and I need to backstop that.

Now that I'm done with this post, I'm sure it is a scam. i just want to be able to kill my friend's hope in this dead, drive a stake through It's heart and stuff it's mouth with garlic. Maybe some flaming diesel too.

It's a Visa work scam- your friend would contact these people and be told to pay fees and whatnot to have the paperwork submitted.

Once she started doing that there would always be more, and they would continue leading her on until she was broke.

Sony doesn't employ people like this; neither does any other corporation. Additionally, Visas are applied for in the country in which the applicant lives, in person- not via email.

Phone number +447024092099 is a personal number that will redirect to a lads mobile, and if it was Sony Erikson, they would not use a phone number from one of their competitiors such as, Magrathea Telecommunications:

I wasn't 100% certain whether the "work permit department" was supposed to be UK government entity or not. I googled the telephone number and got a free classifieds ad for a car dealer receptionist in London. Scampatroller, how did you get that data? That resource needs to go in my quiver, and right up front.

It probably isn't a surprise, but I'm feeling an urge to choke the life out of this batch of clowns.

Paste any phone number in to the box and it will tell you which country the number is from, which telephone company and whether the phone is a landline, mobile phone, personal number etc

The Google result for the +447024092099 number gives another job scam, sorry about the long link, with the ! in it it can't be shortened, copy and paste the full url in to your browser:

That blurry 'Employment Agreement' is in pure Laddish. (You might like to watermark that pic 'Fake' BTW so other lads don't use it on anyone else).

I hope you are able to convince your friend that she almost fell for a scam and perhaps explain how these things work so she can spot any future ones. If she's concerned that 'Sony Ericsson' has her personal details the best thing she can do is just cease all communication immediately and the lad will quickly get bored and move on to somebody else (unfortunately).

I think I have my friend on the straight and narrow and I may be able to get headers from her soon. All the better to abuse these clowns. My friend isn't dumb, but she's under enough pressure that she bit on the offer. The scammer does have her details so I'm hoping that she will just drop these clowns and hand the details over to someone with time, a grudge, and good BS skills. My attributes are improving, but I'll be happy if someone in this group can make this bunch of lads suffer.

Ohh, I see that this batch of clowns has already been plagued. I like it. I'm going to paste some of the emails, but only one header since the particulars of the yahoo address don't seem to matter.

She got the job through "Best Jobs". I haven't gottn a specific URL just yet.

I know I'm going to do what I can to plague them.
