Yesterday when I got up, I found 2 stray dogs in our back yard chasing our cats. After yelling at them and chasing them off, I found one of our cats with a badly mauled face and side. We got her patched up and then tried to find our other cat but couldn't.
Today I found her and she didn't make it. Now I have to tell our 16 year old daughter that the kitty she grew up with isn't here anymore.
The cats are so much part of our family that when we moved here from NZ we brought them with us. Crying or Very sad

aw thats terrible, same thing of sorts happened to me as a kid, except it was teens with pellet guns. worse we knew who did it and had no proof. i really did miss Shredder terribly. you have my deepest sympathies.

Today has gotten even worse. I have just had a call from NZ to say that my mum has been rushed into hospital with heart problems. Sad

They say things happen in three's, so hopefully that's my lot.
My daughter Kelsi doesn't finish school until 5pm today so I have to wait until then to have a stiff drink.

My thoughts are with you mate. Hope everything is OK with your mum. Must be terribly stressful and worrying and I wish you all the best.

Always hard when a pet leaves the family. I remember many tearful trips to the vets when one or another of our many cats or dogs passed away. Your daughter will be very sad for quite a while I'm sure, but it's something all pet owners (especally kids) have to get over in time. Hope it goes ok.

Hi Bella, first off, I am terribly sorry to hear about your pets. Losing our furry friends is unfortunately part of having a pet, but it doesn't make it any easier. When your cat has been part of the family for 16 years, he (she?) IS family and it is horrible having to say goodbye.

Then, how is your mother doing? Is she back home already? It must be difficult being far away from her now. Best of luck to you and your family. Hope your mother gets well soon.

Bella, if there's anything I can do to help down here in the BOP let me know (I don't log on that often, but leave a PM for me).

When I was young our cat went missing, and we never "found" it. Many years later my Dad told me it'd been run over and he'd buried it under a tree he planted in the back yard.

Know what you mean about being attached to them though, we brought our cat home with us to NZ from Aussie - he cost more than any other member of the family!

I hope that you mum gets better and is okay. As someone who is deeply attached to his little furry darlings I feel your pain about the loss.

As a result, I've told my little ones that they are loved, adored and worshipped. Also, if they want to the can sleep on the comfy duvets. My little 12 year old will be tucked up when she wants to tonight.

They both will be getting extra kisses and cuddles.

Hey, thanks for the kind messages. We have put the little one out in our front garden and I will buy a little spreading tree today so she will always sleep in the shade. Crying or Very sad

Not a very nice Valentine's Day for us, but I did get to hear that my Mum is doing better so there was a reason to smile for a bit.

Thought about you at work today, Bella. Good to hear that your Mum is feeling better. How is your other cat doing? It can be quite difficult for other pets as well, when their friend is no longer around.

Sorry to hear about sad news. Any chance that you called animal control on the stray dogs... they might pose a danger to someone else.

That really sucks... I don't think I have every had a pet die, other then when I was very young, so I can't really remember it.

You should call animal control... It kinda scary walking home with a huge ass dog walking in circles around you.

Yes, I am going to ring the council today and let them know. The dogs both had collars on so they are somebodies pets, but just obviously let out to roam.
The other cat is just sleeping or sitting outside under the pergola where they played. Her face is healing but her little nose is still a mess.

Thanks everyone for the support. It really is appreciated.
I have an appointment tomorrow at 10am with a guy from the city council to make a statement about what has happened. I don't want anything bad happen to the dogs, but I want the owners to realize that they have to be responsible for their pets. I don't want another family to feel how we all feel.
Anyway, I just want to say thanks heaps to you all. Your kindness and support has helped make a sad situation easier to bear.

I recently had to put down a beloved pet that I had since she was a kitten, so I understand your loss.

Carry on, Bella. As someone who has had pets all of my life, and who currently has 2 cats, 2 birds a bunny and a dog, I know how tough it can be to lose an animal, especially in the manner you described.

I also hope that your mom gets better. My mother is healthy so far, but is at the age where something could happen any day. We recently passed the first anniversay of my Dad's death, too. Ain't easy. My thoughts are with you.

Poor you bella, I hope you're feeling better now.

How someone can be so irresponsible to let their dogs off a lead I'll never know. It could be a child if it happens again. Hopefully the council can speak with the owner.

I know how hard it can be to lose a pet, they're part of the family, arent they? I hope things start looking up for you and your family.
