anyone know where i can get a clip of the modem connection sound?

This is the site that I use. Its the second to the bottom.

I use the ringing (number 7) on my outgoing message. It makes it sound like my phone is not a K7 number. I did one message where I ring for a while, say "Stand by, forwarding call", ring again for a while with the other ringer sound and then do it once more with the original. Never got a complaint.

thanks very much but i guess i miswrote. i was thinking the modem connection sound that AOL users would get. with all the static and beeps

^^ That's not what my dad says - he has to disconnect his DSL modem to be able to make a proper phone call. He's now thinking about switching to cable.

The filter is for the phone! not the modem.

All the phones in the house should have a filter unless a down line filter is in place to support a group of phones.

I'm not having trouble (I'm on cable) - my dad is. And I stand corrected, he has a filter between line and phone (at least, I think so, will check again to make sure). And why PM? Can't we discuss this in the open? Or is it such dirty talk?

Could be a duff filter. Try a new one.
Put simply, each socket that has something plugged in it should have a filter on it. The alternative is to fit a master socket that contains a filter then feed all the other sockets from that; the downside to this is that the ADSL modem has to plug into the master.

I'm on cable as well, but my parents just upgraded... to fiber optic. That is very, very cool. Last time I was there, I was getting download speeds of 1000 kbps, uploading at 400.

that makes me very sad for me. i have a lame dorm connection that doesnt even support some streaming sites
