She may well have been a nice person- but probably so was Mr. Hanson, 32, robbed and murdered in your local supermarket parking lot, or Mrs. McManus, 78, who died alone in her house of a heart attack two blocks from where you live.

Lots of people die everyday, many of whom are far less controversial or aren't anywhere near as self-destructive- threads aren't started for them; just because this person looked good on a TV screen, does that make her more special?

I just feel bad for the little girl that will never know what it is like to grow up with her mother. Anna Nicole was an idiot to the rest of the world but her little girl probably would not care and would probably just want her back. It's too bad. Perhaps Anna Nicole should have gotten her shit together for her daughter's sake.

Frankly, given the industrial amounts of pharmaceuticals she swallowed, inhaled or injected I'm amazed this didn't happen a lot sooner. She pushed the Self Destruct button a long time ago. It's the 6month old baby I fee sorry for and hope that when they finally determine who the babydaddy is (DNA tests pending) she will be raised in a secure and loving home away from the chaos and media circus she's been subjected to up until now.

I think this thread has outlived it's usefulness.

Making fun of anyone who has died and left behind a young child is not necessary.

And while the rice bag story is amusing it should be in the PWT where it belongs because it's certainly nothing to do with this thread, and this thread is nothing to do with anything because people have just been slagging off a dead woman.

WHAT would you do if you were her child and saw THIS THREAD online?

Believe me, it's viewable to everyone. It's only a matter of time before it's on google as well... best the topic stops here.

My condolences to her family.

As DrWho pointed out, the media has a way of singling out individuals, making them supposedly important, and having everybody get all sobby-eyed over their fate. In the process, they make lots and lots of money from the advertisements sold before, after and during the "news" stories.

While the short-span attention of the masses is concentrated on one person in a coma or one person on drugs or one person with huge fake breasts and a mental disorder, the tens of thousands of other people who need assistance are totally forgotten.

Instead of getting all worked up about some over-drugged media-whore, and whether or not she should get the millions, or what's going to happen to her kid, blah, blah, people should go down to the local hospital or community center. Plenty of lonely people to visit there, plenty of poor orphans, lots of good work to do.

FWIW, I think it was Krona who based his baiter persona on Anna Nicole Smith (but younger).

Also FWIW; Anna Nicole's death was he second thing my supervisor talked about at work this morning (after "G'day"), the fifth item on Fox News, and the lead page on the evening MX throwaway.

My personal opinion is that this is turning into a political debate. Both sides make good points. Why are we even discussing this here? A professor at the music conservatory where I studied always said, if you're going to go on stage, after the performance it's your duty to face the audience. Not just for applause, but for their reaction, whatever it is. You've expected them to listen to you for a while, now it's your turn to listen to them.

If they want to applaud, fine. If they want to boo you off the stage, fine. It's their choice and you have no right to expect any certain reaction or run away from it. Face it and take it.

I'm probably in the vast minority here, but I actually had to google this person to see who she was. I'd heard the name in passing, of course, but never paid any attention. I've honestly never understood the fascination that the "public" has with celebrities and their private lives. The magazines at the grocery checkstand never cease to amaze me. Do real people actually pay good money for stories about who some actress/ actor/ "famous" person is sleeping with/married to/ divorcing/ having kids with? Why?

It seems to be a sad story, and its a shame her child has to live through it, but I really don't get it.
