This article from one of the Spanish newspapers explains how the Police in Seville disbanded a group of 48 scammers (mostly Nigerians) operating 419 and 'stained banknote' scams. They arrested 23 people (16 at home and 7 in internet cafes) and confiscated 38,000 Euros and equipment from them.
I hope they beat the shit out of the bastards too.
By a strange coincidence, I was in Seville last weekend.

Sevilla. (EFE).- La Polic�a Nacional ha desarticulado en Sevilla a un grupo especializado en cometer estafas y falsificar documentos por los procedimientos de la "cartas nigerianas" y los "billetes tintados" compuesto por 48 personas, en su mayor�a nigerianos, que podr�an haber defraudado dos millones de euros.
Los detenidos, 47 de Nigeria y un senegal�s, estaban especializados en cometer estafas por el conocido m�todo de las "cartas nigerianas", que consiste en obtener a trav�s de internet direcciones postales o correos electr�nicos de personas residentes en el extranjero para comunicarles que han sido agraciados con un cuantioso premio de loter�a nacional.
Para cobrar los premios, los estafadores informaban a sus v�ctimas de que deb�an remitir una cantidad media de 3.000 euros para poder hacer efectivo el pago.
De este modo enviaban diariamente unas dos mil cartas al extranjero consiguiendo defraudar m�s de dos millones de euros.
Adem�s, los detenidos tambi�n estafaban por el procedimiento de los "billetes tintados", por el que contactaban con distintos empresarios para animarlos a participar en un sugestivo negocio a cambio de una importante comisi�n.
Los estafadores aseguraban a sus v�ctimas que pose�an millones de d�lares tintados que necesitaban de un l�quido especial para devolverlos a su estado original.
Para conseguir este producto, los ahora detenidos, que mostraban a la v�ctimas miles de billetes ennegrecidos aunque tan s�lo hac�an una demostraci�n con uno original, exig�an un anticipo monetario.
Cuando los estafados adquir�an el producto comprobaban que en realidad los presuntos billetes tan s�lo eran cartulinas negras.
La Polic�a realiz� 23 registros en Sevilla, de los cuales 16 fueron en los domicilios de los detenidos y siete en locutorios donde se incautaron de material empleado en la comisi�n de estos delitos, 38.000 euros y otros objetos, como ordenadores e impresoras |
