I have been receiving mails in catcher accounts with no text and only attachments like greetingcard.exe, postcard.exe, etc. They all contain viruses and I must assume that they come from unsuccesful scammers, and I also suppose that I am not the only baiter receiving them.
These viruses are promptly detected by the email inbox internal antivirus protection and will probably also be detected by each computer's own antivirus program, but anyway it is wise to watch out for these gifts. |

Rule #1 for any internet user, baiter or not:
Never open *anything* that is attached to an email, especially ecards, if you don't know the person who sent it and are not expecting it.
If you do, don't complain to anybody about the results. Just reformat your harddisks and kick yourself in the butt. |

Right. Good advise. Everything with those characteristics I just click it for the antivirus to confirm my suspicion that it contains a virus. 98% of the times the virus alert comes on. And the 2% left that the AV says it is safe I don't open them anyway.
So at the end everything is deleted without opening. And then emptied from the trash folder also. |

I go further.
Although I use POP for my private email, I use my IPS' webmail service first and delete *everything* there that doesn't look like I really want it. I only download mails via POP that I know are ok. |

I don't think these are actually viruses, more trojan horses etc. I'm not sure on the exact details but when run, usually nothing happens and you forget about it, however when idle time is noticed on your internet connection the programme talks to it's master and allows remote type access to your files, keystrokes and even webcam.
I'm not sure if the destination IP is easily added to the file - but with the recent surge of them I guess its a new wave of cybercriminals who are trolling the internet for emails just like those ba*rt viagra spammers or our mugus.
Main thing to remember is never open something you werent expecting, and certainly never .exe, .com, .bat, .scr, .pif files. They can even trick you with something like me_naked.jpg.exe Remember, virus scanners scan for viruses, and sometimes trojans. I know they're getting better and better but they will never catch 100% of all malicious software. |

Viruses are known to spread themselves from infected machines, that's kind of what defines a virus. A virus you'd have to send from A to B to work wouldn't be exceedingly successfull in the wild, would it? So for the seemingly thousandth time:
No, lads will not send you viruses, they work from infested internet caf PCs. And known as viruses are little programs that distribute themselves, that's what they're made for. |

these "cards" contain trojans and are sent out by professionel criminals (often from Russia or China) to build so-called zombies (gigantic nets with hijacked computers) to carry out bandwith attacks or to send out millions of scam-mails
This people are for sure not our usual lads |

Yes, of course. But they will also threaten me that my penis will fall off. I however promise that once my penis falls off I won't post a thread about it blaming my lads for it. |

It's good that you've thought this out, Don.
Lads know diddly squit about virii - a large percentage of cafe computers are infected eight ways to Sunday, hence the occasional 'A lad sent me a virus!' thread.
As Mathias mentioned, Vlads are a different matter, and you will always have script kiddies out there who think it's funny. |
