Should I Email all recipients of a 419 warning them?

Hi,
I just received a 419 where the mugu put a load of addressees in the To: field. I replied to all, except the mugu, and put the recipients in the BCC field, just saying that the mail was from a criminal and not to respond. I used babel fish to translate my message for all the domains I could see in the address list.

Was this the right thing to do?

BTW I don't mind my addy going out to a mass of people 'cos I only use it for baiting anyhow.

^The best thing to do in future is PM one of the moderators here. They have the means and the expertise to follow up on the information.

Yeah - it's not a per se "bad" thing to do, but you run into various issues, the most pressing being the various victims forwarding your warning to the lad, which makes him savvy and basically serves to educate the lad (a no-no in a general sense). You also never know when a lad has cc'd himself or a cohort in that mass mailing -- again adding to the risk of the lad catching on. Last, many victims might start asking you questions, assuming you have all the answers -- if you're not prepared for that onslaught, it can also get tricky.

Still -- your heart was certainly in the right place! Smile

I don't mean to dampen your enthusiasm and your intention was pure gold but if I got a "don't buy it, it won't work"-warning for every penis enhancement scam in my inbox I'd be rather irate. Wink

Also someone you sent a warning to might come up with the idea, "he is saying that because it's genuine and he wants to eliminate the competition."
