Does anyone still sign guestbooks

I seeded at the outset, and haven't since. I get plenty of slop, and it's been over a year.

That's just what I did last week, and based on the amount of scam emails that have come into my inbox in the past couple days, there'll be no need to sign any more. I'm more than happy to post the excess in the Surplus forum; I've already gotten some great advice from the experienced baiters here, so I figure it's the least I can do in return.

I have a feeling I'll probably sign up for another Gmail account sometime soon in order to bait from that account, and keep the old account only to catch the emails.

No problem with guestbooks here. I seeded less than a dozen when I joined and this generates a nice stream of scammers for the inboxes.

I don't operate my catcher account anymore. But one interesting thing about watching the catcher account is seeing in real time how the scammer's art evolves. The stories change. Their English skills have evolved. Check baiting has become much more sophisticated.

I currently get 2-3 letters a week in my personal and business email accounts. In addition, I've got friends and coworkers that forward their scam letters to me. So I really don't need the catcher account.

It's sometimes flattering to have annoyed coworkers bring their scam letters to me. They seem to think I can get the scammers arrested! Laughing

I have two accounts that are seeded very extensivley. I put autoresponders on these for ASEMs. I get some good results this way, but that is the only reason I can see to do any seeding these days.

Not long after I started baiting I did the sign guestbook thing. All up I signed around 8 to 12 guestbooks. Out of curiosity I gggoooggled my catcher addy and the search returned only 2 hits. It would appear that either some editing had occurred or those sites or guestbooks are no longer present.

Anyway, I still receive more than enough scam email via my catcher and some via another addy which appears on a tech forum or two.

^^^^^ I noticed that Homer ...it's still showing the same addies that I used in my last round of ASEMs

Maybe our surplus mail forum will become the Industry Standard for the rest of the Scam Baiting world

You do realize that most of us surplus letter posters wouldn't GET any mugu mails to post if we didn't sign guestbooks Rolling Eyes

This may have been true in the past, Herp, but guestbook seeding isn't really necessary anymore.
There are so many other resources out there- Joe Wein's site, lots of other baiting sites, scam letter tracking sites, Ergot, etc, etc.

Personally, I'd like to see the seeding stop- it really is inconsiderate. Most baiters don't even read the sites just like the lads; they just dump their emails or harvest the emails left and move on out.
That's just my opinon, though.

I had a pissed off lad spam a baiter account, and that has turned into a nice catcher account all by itself. Very Happy

@cienfuego: The catcher account is probably the oldest technique that scambaiters have. It is explained here. Along other useful "how-to's" for beginners.

I signed a few guest books at first as advised but my real e-mail address was getting loads anyway so I just e-mail them back from my anti-scam address saying that they sent an e-mail to my company or church by mistake. Everyone replies. "God brought us together, let me give you 10 million dollars".
