help! a "friend" hacked into my yahoo email: how??

any ideas? I wasn't phished. My password was in a transliterated foreign language she doesn't speak followed by numbers so i doubt she could have guessed it.

Did you write it on a piece of paper and left it somewhere? Or did you have an easy to guess (or know) secret question and answer?

oh we're not friends anymore.
I didn't do anything stupid....just have no idea how she did it. I understand about the hacker tactics thing, I'm just so pissed off and baffled as to how she did it.

a myspace vulnerability maybe?

keylogger?

If this person was close to you and used your computer than she could have installed a keylogger.

That's the only thing I can think of.

no, we've never been on the same machine, and she couldn't have installed one. I know yahoo are really hard to hack, but she couldn't even gotten to the screen about my "secret question." the only i can think of is a fake email login, but i always type the address in myself. her borther is expert on hacking (been on tv and stuff) but i don't see how its possible.

maybe a trojan that implanted a keylogger? Did you make a full system scan with an up to date Virusscanner yet?

It is possible, but technical discussions on how to do it in public are not for this place. Let's just say it doesn't take a genius. There are dozens of ways, from the unbelievably easy and obvious, to the downright hard and very technical.

^^^^ just make sure that you don�t have any malware on your system. Use common (up to date) software and check your system. Smile

What exactly happened? If your account's still usable for you, there's a possibility that it was just a header spoof, and your password wasn't actually leaked.
