Better make sure they pack their safari hats and pen knives. Also, take Iodine, cause you cant drink the water there or it makes you really ill. Actually, forget the iodine... Laughing

We have agreed to a plan now. I am going to steal the money and bury it just in case the camp moves or the boss wants to move the money to a bank.

I am certain that someone is going to Uganda now. The only thing that can screw this up now is if he cannot get a visa.

A good excuse for them not to find you...
Quote:
Gorilla Permits
You need an official permit handled by each of the national parks to see the gorillas. Usually you have to obtain these several months in advance. If you are going with a tour it will be arranged for you.

In Uganda it costs USD 360 per day per person for a gorilla permit. You can get the permits in Kampala (the capital of Uganda) at the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) headquarters. It is possible to make an international booking for permits using email direct with UWA but they do not accept credit cards so it gets a bit complicated. See their web site for more details.

Quote:
# No flash photography is allowed
# Trekkers must be fit and well equipped, which includes warm clothing for the wet cool climate high in the mountains.
# No eating or drinking in the vicinity of the gorillas
# No touching the gorillas (although they may decide to touch you)

That should be fun, ask them to make sure they take a flash photo of the Gorrillas touching them. They should carry a lot of fruit with them to avoid scurvy. Very Happy

While researching the driving directions from Kampala (the capital) to Ruhija, I found out that you are not permitted to go any farther than the remote town of Kabale without your own vehicle. I am going to get the lad to travel to Kabale first before springing the news on him that something went wrong and that he will have to arrange for a ride to Ruhija. I just want to get him to Uganda first. Then I will start turning the screws.

I am unable to update the website from work. The new emails will be posted later.

I sincerely hope no gorillas will be harmed in this venture. THAT would be too bad, indeed. Sounds as though he will have to have some official contact with people in Kabale. I hope that he doesn't somehow twig when he gets there. (I guess even if he did, it would still be a great safari, but it would be nice to see him get a little more out into the wilderness. A camping trip is always fun, isn't it?

make sure to remind him to take a gorilla costume with him. it will help when if he gets seen by the researchers and has to blend in with the other gorrillas. try to get him to take a female gorilla costume, we wouldnt want a large male attacking him now would we? he might do something else though...

Not to get too off-topic, but what was that movie that had Al Frankin as a baggage handler and one of the bad guys got put in a gorilla suit and stuck in a cage with a male gorilla? I can't think of the name but it was pretty funny. . .
As far as a camping trip in the jungle, I had occasion to go briefly into the jungle area near the coast in the state of Sao Paulo, in Brazil, and by the time I was about 20 feet from the road it was nearly impossible to hear the traffic, see any sign of how to get back, etc. Pretty creepy experience for someone used to pine forests. I imagine it would be very easy for our laddie to get turned around. Think he'll be bringing a GPS with him?

Pug,

I dunno about Al Franken, but I'll bet the film whereof you refer is Trading Places . I remember the scene well.

I can guarantee you no gorilla will be harmed in the filming of this safari.

A) The lad(s) are after money; they are not poachers.
B) The lad(s) will have no weapons. (They don't have friggin' guns, anyway. This ain't the Red Mafiya.)
C) Let's say a lad acquires a machete (which is about what he'll be able to afford). Have you SEEN a gorilla? That skinny-assed lad would have about as much chance as a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest.

Pipe down, PETA. Ain't nobody gettin' hurt here...at least no innocent animals. Twisted Evil

I asumed it went without saying that the gorilla had to be shaved with a HUGE STARGATE tattoo across it's chest, however, thanks for bringing that up.

Seriously YeaWhatever, I think safari needs to be redefined...........

I just read everything on the site, I too am very excited. i just can't wait untill he ventures off into the woods to go find the bandana of youth.

You should do some serious traveling research about the area. call a travel agent and see if they can hook you up with somebody in the region who can give you more information about the place. maybe they will even send you some detailed trail maps of the forest or something. the information that you are going to find readily available on the internet is very limited. you are going to need more detailed info if you actually want to get this guy into the woods.

I know I'm kinda slow on the uptake here, but it hit me this afternoon that this is the ol' trunk box modality only without the same sort of security company, and no diplomat to deliver it to him! Smile Do you think he's seen the famous trunk o'money photo? Maybe you could send it to him to prove you're telling the truth! (Just kidding, of course!!)
Perhaps when the lad is right there, and when he is starting to realize that just maybe he's been had, you could let him know that the money has been defaced by gorilla poop and he needs to buy some chemicals in order to clean it up!
Smile

The money has now been taken by Mr. Fitzwell and buried in the jungle near the spot I originally wanted the lad to go to. I have given him the exact coodinates for the money, hoping that he wil have the brains to purchase a GPS locator.

Would you like to see for yourselves? Open up Google Earth and paste in the following location: 1 01' 12.65" S, 29 44' 59.75" E

a cul-de-sac is what they need a dead end will suffice too of cause.
