I usually don't publish a bait until I've got a trophy, but this one's been going for a while now, and it's pretty funny. This is a standard next-of-kin scam, but unfortunately, complications arise.

Dramatis personae:

Scammer: Dr. James Campbel. Or was that James Kamoli? Or is it James Obiwon? - "manager at the auditing and accounting department of one of the commercial banks here in United Kingdom"
Baiter: William S. Preston - Occupation unknown
Scammer: Barrister Ufomadu Franklin - Attorney to the deceased
Scammer: Mr. Roy. No word if that's his first or last name. - Fund transfer department, Universal Trust Bank

Since we got information about his death, we have been expecting his next of
kin to come over and claim his money because we cannot release it unless
somebody applies for it as next of kin or relation to the deceased as
Indicated in our banking laws but unfortunately we learnt that all his
supposed next of kin or relation died alongside with him at the plane crash
leaving nobody behind for the claim. It is therefore upon this discovery
that I now decided to make this business proposal to you and release the
money to you as the next of kin or relation to the deceased for safety and
subsequent disbursement since nobody is coming for it and we don't want this
money to go into the bank treasury as unclaimed bill.

The banking law and guideline here stipulates that if such money remained
unclaimed after five years, the money will be transferred into the bank
treasury as unclaimed fund. The request of foreigner as next of kin in this
business is occasioned by the fact that the customer was a foreigner. I
agree that 30% of this money will be for you as a respect to the provision
of a foreign account, 10% will be set aside for expenses incurred during the
business and 60% would be for me Thereafter, I will visit your country for
disbursement according to the percentage indicated.

Therefore, to enable the immediate transfer of this fund to your designated
bank account, you must apply first to the bank as a relation or next of kin
of the deceased with a text of application that I will send to you, so I
will like you to send to me your private telephone and fax number for easy
and effective communication and location where in the money will be
remitted.

Upon receipt of your reply, I will send to you by fax or email the text of
the application . I will not fail to bring to your notice this transaction
is hitch-free and that you should not entertain any atom of fear as all
required arrangements have been made for the transfer. You should contact me

I go to his fake bank site. It uses a javascript function to make the background dissolve from white to black. I have javascript disabled. It's just a stupid flash movie and white text on white.

I have inherited large sums of money in the past, and I've never had to pay any fees. I find your manner rude and unprofessional. I will not do business with somebody who clearly does not know how normal banks work. A bond fee is completely unnecessary in this situation. You aren't trying to scam me out of my money, are you?

I have realised something about Mr. Ufomadu - he is not who he says he is!

First of all, whenever I point out a small and obvious mistake in his mail that even a child could see, he becomes very defensive and does not provide a good explanation for his mistake, instead insulting me.

I was cleaning up my inbox and I came across a letter from that bank I was having trouble at. The person who I was supposed to pay at the bank is the SAME PERSON that Franklin wants me to pay. I think this LISA GREEN person is trying to steal our money, and impersonating the real Ufomadu or hiring somebody to.

This would explain the whole mess, why Ufomadu does not conduct himself in a lawyer-like fashion, why he does not have any knowledge of basic technology - he is not the real lawyer! He is actually Lisa Green from the bank, trying to steal our money.

I don't know what happened to Schranner's real lawyer, but I will try to figure it out. I knew something fishy was going on here, and now I've confirmed this. Don't worry, James. Our money is now safe because I have discovered Lisa Green is trying to scam us.
