Heya... I'm just getting into this and was wondering if there is any downsides I'm not seeing to using fax numbers and phone numbers from big companies or government... I was thinking of using

We generally try and stay away from intentionally involving innocent third parties. There are a few exceptions to the rule such as the KKK and other hate groups.

We don't like wasting the time of the FBI...they have enough sh1t to deal with.

The idea here is to hurt the lads, not screw around with bystanders and innocent thrid parties, and that includes tying up their phone and fax lines with scammers. That is especially true of law enforcement agencies - they have enough proper work to do without having to fend off calls from stroppy lads.

I was thinking they would shit a brink when they find themselves speaking with the FBI or such. But I do see your point. I scanned throught the stickies a while back, but now that I'm looking to bait a few might be a good idea to re-read.

In regards to the White House or other key political figures...Late one night while playing on the state computer we decided to run a drivers license check on the President. Bad move! Within 3 minutes, the telephone rang and I was in deep sh*t trying to explain to the Secret Service why I was doing checks on the Prez. Needless to say, after a rather thorough ass chewing, I decided that DL checks on key figures just wasn't worth it.

Ethically, it's a no-no to endanger third parties or to waste the resources of people that make a useful contribution to the human race. Along these lines, I wouldn't put lads in contact with Apple, but I see nothing wrong with putting lads in touch with most government bodies, including the White House or the North Korean ministry of hero worship.

You can google "miserable failure" and end up at the White House official site, or was it Dubya's, I forget and he probably did too.

But I've never tried Dick Cheney.... probably wind up in a snake torture pit for all I know..but I digress again to laughs at www.allhatnocattle.com for the sake of my sanity... Washington is a very strange town these days.

@Chief 2B: That's hilarious, even though it probably didn't seem to be at the time...

Reminds me of when we got a new copier at work. We joked around about photocopying a 20, and the salesman doing the demonstration freaked. Apparently, they had just had someone try to do that, and it locked up the copier, and they got a visit from the Secret Service.

Directing them to hate groups is a great idea, but involving the White House isn't...every story I've ever heard about this involves visits from people in black suits with no sense of humor whatsoever...

I'd would say "thumbs down" on using the White House fax, or the contact details for any government agency. No matter how well you cover your tracks these jokers seem to have an uncanny ability to track people down. Don't screw with the guvment.

I think it is hilarious to use the details for groups like the KKK - now that is good stuff! No innocent third parties there.

The public fax at the white house gets so much spam from political groups. I think it would hardly make a difference (or even be noticed) for that matter. If you're calling that involving an innocent 3rd party, I think it might be a little bit of a stretch. On the other hand, there are many better places to have them send faxes, where it might be fun.

Oh this same note, I had a couple of lads call the Tokyo Hilton looking for me. Involving an innocent 3rd party? Perhaps, but it doesen't even register as a blip on their radar screen. I'm not going to do that anymore, because I would rather have them call me, or one of my fictitious numbers, and fuck with them that way. I mean, if somethign interesting is said, I wanna be able to record it.

Mrs. Bean is right. My tax dollars are paying for this, so I wouldn't reccomend it!

Of course, with a fax, you're dealing with about $0.008 per page, which means that if your lad sent a 30 page document, We're looking at a 24 cent cost. Divided by the US population, that works out to $0.00000000096 per person, just for that one fax. Sure that's not much, but what if five lads sent such a fax each day? Considering that I expect to pay taxes for about 60 years of my life, give or take, that means in the course of my life, the government has taken $0.00010512 of my money, just because some yahoo is baiting lads with a DC fax line. That's over a thousandth of a penny!

But seriously, Don't do it. One, it wastes time of officials that ought to be using that time for official business. Two, if the government (which has thousands of professional computer hackers working for it) finds out who causes theis regular mennacing to their systems, it's YOU, and not the scammer, who will get slapped. Three, you can get your own K7 or J2 number and record a personalized greeting like "You've reached the FBI Anti-terrorism task unit. Leave a message" or "(from a campaign comercial-) This is George W Bush, and I approve this message (Your voice) This is the White house. Leave a message and Dubya will get back to you once we run a background chack. Thanks!" and those could be a lot more fun.

While I jokingly made a comment about the US tax dollars paying for faxes, I have to admit that I consider faxing (or even calling), and especially visiting hotels from lads to be off limits. I'm in management in a major hotel Chain. Before I was in this position, I was one of the front desk clerks. Faxes and phone calls are time consuming considering that for a hotel with 300 guests, you're only going to have 3 or 4 front desk clerks and one phone operator, who is usually in charge of routing all the calls, sorting mail, sifting through faxes, and whatnot. Those folks are BUSY, and don't spend a lot of time sitting around. When a fax comes in, addressed to someone, they have to check to see if that guest name is currently in the hotel. If not, they have to pull the archives from the last 3-6 months and look up to see if that guest had stayed with them. They then look up the next several months reservations to see if the guest is going to be staying with them. Because the hospitality industry is built off serving guests, it would not be unlikely for the front desk staff to try and track down a name on a fax, even if that person never has and never will stay there.

And frankly, there's not a lot of security at most hotel lobbies. If some mugu comes to a hotel at 2AM and then realized he was being duped while in the hotel lobby, and decided to take it out on the lone front desk staff member who was working that audit shift, that's trouble. He could be hurt or killed. Believe me, overnight front desk clerks have been in that spot before.

I'm all for getting lads to pay for a few nights at the finest hotels in Africa. I've done it myself. But just be very careful. Hotel clerks are people, and particularly vunerable ones at that.
