Has anyone ever got in trouble from baiting?

This is just something i thought of when looking back at something I did a long time ago that could seriously have gotten me into something nasty.

Just wondering, i mean, i see warnings all over about what you should never do but are there any stories of people who made mistakes and got in trouble?

i highly doubt you can legally but from the scammers themselves

But no real proof Just peoples word

Just think of it this way

You (419 scammer) have just gotten burned BIG time.. You spent a lot of money buying stuff trying to convince a Baiter that you are real.

This money you spent may not sound much for most people but to you it means everything.

If you had the address and the means to do something to this person who screwed you at your own game wouldn't you?

I know i would.

Also a lot of these organizations have people In the USA and other countries who are (less the friendly) and would be more then willing to do you boddily harm.

Being safe is better then being dead or living in fear
There is a damn good reason why these warnings are in place.. Follow them or not it is your choice.

Me i wont take the chance some lad could show up on my doorstep.. Even though i have a lad Reppeller Smile

There have been some instances where the lads have tried to track down a baiter, but thanks to our mentor program this is very unlikely to happen.
As for the legal aspect, there is nothing wrong with baiting, so long as you don't do anything illegal! Wink

What is this so called "mentor program"? If someone needs help in how to fool incompetent retards then they shouldn't be on the internet.

I guess as ya get older you can look at your experience and see the needful spots.
I can't imagine being that impatient now, though in truth I probably was.

I was simply not a terribly nice person when I was young... lots to be angry about.
I hope Mr. Hoff finds peace with himself more easily than I did.

People are unique... Unique things are just too precious to be exposed to abuse needlessly.

I'm certain that someone told me that while I was younger and still full of the certainty of my absolute perfection.

I remember one story where a baiter wanted to send his lad a fax and got a friend to do it on the machine where he worked. A few weeks later a coloured gentlemen with an African accent came into the place of work and kept asking the receptionist where he could get ahold of the fictional name that the scammer had been using.

It turned out that each fax was automatically sent out with details of the business.

but that got me wondering, someone said gmail is better because it hides ip addresses,

so if someone used hotmail, are there any risks from them tracking you down through the ip shown?

btw i'm in Australia so i seriously doubt any of them would be willing to come halfway round the world to start something

seems we are either too smart or too uncharitable get their attention (which is why my character lives in Little Rock, Arkansas)

I think we are talking about 2 different things.

1. Getting into trouble with the authorities.
2. Having a problem with a Mugu.

For 1, if you got caught by the authorities doing something illegal (to a mugu) then maybe you would have your collar felt.

For 2, many people do not rate IP Addresses on the agenda of safe baiting, which I do. It isn't likely that a mugu could track you down from just an IP Address, as it would merely give a geographical location (mine is within half a mile of my house... too close for my comfort). However, given the IP tracks to your ISP, the mugu would need a court order... It just isn't going to happen.

Safe baiting is about "peace of mind". Different people have different levels of what they consider 'safe'. The IP Address issue is one of the most frequently discussed issues on this board.

If exposing your IP does not bother you, then don't worry about it.

In my area, if a non white person is in town it is noted. Which is sad, but these narrow minded ases are pretty bad. I could use my real name and address and be safe as ever. The school is next door, so the cops are around all the time sitting in the lot close to my front door.

Of course it sucks on game nights, traffic and noise, but the rent is cheap for he area.

Not that I would, just incase I moved, plus I hate my phone ringing.

The authorities in the area listen to the local am talk radio, which as been baiting a love scammer in NG for about 6 months. Although they spend far too much money on it. Could i be considered a ax right off for an entertainment business? That may be an idea......

I'd suggest a couple places I've been through in Texas and Alabama that gave new dimensions to Deliverance and Texas Chainsaw Massacre...

I'd send 'em to the address for the KKK bookstore in Pasadena Texas, but I don't really want to put them in serious danger. Just want to get them BUSTED. not busted up.

There are a multitude of levels of answer to this question, as you may have seen.

1. Study the experience of others and always bait safe. Establish your own comfort zone for just how far "safe" goes in your world.

2. Don't break any laws (cash baits, fecal mailing, reverse fraud...) and you won't get any attention from John Law.

3. When you have finished reading the stickies and the FAQ's, take the time to study up on "the one who shall go un-named" u5m4n... that might answer some other questions for you. And you can get a whole new perspective on the phrase "I dey go chop una..."

4. Have fun, and always bait safe.

....is fecal mailing what i think it is? because putting it between cash baits and reverse fraud almost makes it sound normal

you know, its great that theres this big network of advice, i mean my intention has always been just to waste bad peoples time its good that now i have this thing to waste more time on

after talking to nsdap, i'm glad i found this (i didn't realise how crazy those people were at the time)

My scambaiting goes as far as contactng on Gmail and chatting on YIM. The last lad I talked to got so riled and scared I reckon he's now really trying to find my characters name in Texas as we speak...

^^ yes, "fecal mailing" is exactly what it sounds like, the mailing of feces, human or other. It has been joked about, and commented about a few times, and even done at another scambaiters personal website ( I believe the exact fecal matter sent was canine in origin, but I'm not sure...).

Mailing human or animal waste is against the law. And a complete embarrassment when your package gets returned as undeliverable and your wife gets the mail that day...

I make up names and live half a world away.

Is that good enough. Should I be scared?
Sometimes I don't know if they can really find out who you are and track you.
