similar situation to BlueTiger's here. Nearly 40 and mother doesnt like it. But she puts up with it after telling her that i'm being very careful, etc. She still worries though. I try to not remind her of what i'm doing Wink

As for your parents, perhaps get your dad involved in scambaiting? Then it could be something that the two of you do together. Him having a mentor, and you assisting him with baits. (of course we know it would really be the other way 'round Wink ) Dunno if this is an option, but might resolve the situation if it is.

best of luck and like others have said, you'll have to respect their decision, even if you feel it's wrong, but can always focus on other aspects.

Well, I am just over twice your age, and when I got introduced into these forums by a friend, I was hooked, my wife...was not, I have spent the last 7-8 months reading here, getting ideas and learning the way these mugu's work. My wife...still doesn't like it.

I have 2 kids, aged 3 and 7 months, I do my baiting ONLY in my office, I know I bait safe, using gmail to hide my identity, but....you never can be too safe.

I like quite a few people here would advise you to get your parents involved, find a few stories that made you laugh, and bring them up. One of my favourites at the moment is: http://419eater.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=52484&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 I totally laughed out loud at this one.
When you shopw your parents, you need to tell them that the baiter used false names, address and phone numbers, and dropped the package in a fed ex drop box. Make sure they know how careful the baiter was, and that you have someone helping you be safe. (Please get a mentor if you haven't already). I have had a guy on the go for almost 2 months (my first bait ever) and he has finally asked me to fly to spain, but I don't want to end it just yet, I first told him that my wife fell over the dog and broke her leg, a week later, I told him she had a car accident, 'how could she drive with a broken leg?' he asks. I thought I had lost him, but my excuse "She is a drunk, and went out to get more beer" worked (I hope to publish soon)

Make a point of telling them the whole point of this site is to help other people, There are thousands of posts here telling you how to keep safe, just stay off the phone modalities, and use gmail, or another provider that hides your ip.

Sorry for the rambling crap I just posted, I tend to faff around when I write long posts (hence the low post count)

And I shall say it one last time, bait safe, get a mentor, show your parents what is being done here, stay away from the adult themed baits (your too young and your parents defo won't like it, even tho you probably know more about it than them)

My parents are not concerned ... but my wife used to be Laughing . Now she's not worried any more, she got the concept and in fact she admires what many people here do.

Well I'm 15 as well. My parents know that I scambait and basically the only rules that they put on me are thus: 1) Never ever send any REAL personal information including my own picture. 2) Never ever talk to a lad on the phone. 3) Never spend more time scambaiting then doing more productive activities.

#1 and #3 are always good advices, no matter what your age is. As for #2, I have broken that rule, but there's no real need to. You can even get audio trophies by just signing up for a free voicemail-to-email service (such as www.yac.com and many others).

Well I am very new to this and just started scambaiting myself today. All I hope for the minors on this forum is that they can make the right decisions for theirselves and know what they're dealing with! You're not a minor for nothing and we fully know why minors aren't allowed to drink or drive a car so just be sure you protect yourself from any danger and don't get into this too far. That's what I keep in mind for myself too.

It seems you have happened upon a way to rebel against your parents during your teenage years. *sigh* In my day it was a mohawk hairdo and the Dead Kennedy's played at full volume at two in the morning.

In all seriousness, if your parents are concerned I would listen to them. They may seem like boring old farts but they're looking out for your best interests.

Now I feel like a boring old fart...... Razz

I think for some of us (and for some of the parents) it's an instant flashback to our own teenage years and remembering just how outrageously "smart" we were back then. Laughing

Parents are always going to be worried and concerned about you. That's part of their responsibilities when they joined the Parents International Union. What, you didn't see the meeting notices in the mail? Smile

We boring old farts just want these young whippersnappers to get the chance to become boring old farts themselves, some day.

My partner doesn't approve, nor understand. I travel a lot, so I am usually baiting from a laptop on dialup (while away), so my IP and country of origin changes. It's hard to say at what age you should start doing something like this. The reality of it boils down to the age when you start to questions the dangers of it. At that time you're pretty much aware of the consequnces of your actions. I know the last thing I ever want is for someone I have pissed off to come visit me at home. I'm usually armed, so again, it's all okay for me. I know your parents would not want a large group of badly dressed thugs rocking up on your doorstep looking for YOU. The odds of them actually doing this are astronomical, but you never know.
I would actually say if your seriously interested in fighting electronic fraud. Go to school. Study hard. Get your degree. Join a law enforcement agency that specialise in this type of crime, and then do some real damage. We waste their time, and pass on information to those who can make arrests. We are all part-time investigators helping use our time and resources to help those with a badge and government behind them to make arrests.
For me, it's a current diversion while I wait for my next job, or to pass the time (instead of watching boring, stupid TV).
I'll give up baiting for several months and come back after I've been forgotten by those I have baited.
Be careful and trust no-one. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some elements of the criminal 419 mugu-nation aren't registered users of this board. Keeping an eye on us. Hoping for one of to slip up, divulge some personal information, anything just so that they can track one of us down and make an example of us to other scam-baiters.
Being paranoid is a great survival technique. Anonimity is paramount. Trusting your judgement and common sense is very important. If you feel as though things are going sour - get out.

Sorry I don't mean to preach, but it's a very important topic.

Also, for all those here still in high school or college, it would be a very good idea for you to consider making 419 fraud the subject of the next project or speech that you are assigned. Being in school, you have a great opportunity to get the word out about fraud, and how to avoid becoming a victim. The more people who are made aware of the various scams found on the Internet, the fewer real victims there will be in the future. In a classroom, you more or less have a "captive audience", so the message should get through.

Taking victims away from the scammers by educating them before they fall for it really hurts the lads Twisted Evil , and is one of the best "trophies" anyone can get, IMHO.

Hi Keytool,

Good thread this, I would say just keep your baits low level for now, i.e. just engage them in minor chat and don't antagonize too much. I'm convinced that I've had a few of these twits pulling their hair out and foaming at the mouth with my antics in the past but got no more than a "you are big fool" response ....... no death threats yet.

common sense and awareness should suffice, don't use audio baits and stay away from anon mobile phone baits as in most countries they can be tracked down to a few feet these days.

Reading this thread made me wonder if mugus had the same concerns over their offspring going into the family business?............maybe not.
