Ok, so I've been using one of my accounts to send out greviously threatening emails to as many lads as I can humanly catch. The results have been nothing short of hysterically funny; but today, things got weird. To wit, the following four missives landed in my abuse in-box....

I am sometimes upset by the way some of us or our people carelessly uses words or languages that does not comply with the democracy and zivilisation of our time, thereby demostrating great amount of intolerance.
Some of us have never taking time to search and lay hand on the historic materials that can help us understand the mistakes and factors that led to lost of the past Biafran war, but some kept on blaming Mr A. or Mr B., another tribe or even other nations for nothing. We sometimes need to careful in our uttrances in this forum.

Military on alert over alleged MASSOBs plot in Bakassi
Segun Olatunji, Kaduna
Following the uncovering of alleged plans by members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra to engage some Camerounian agents to foment chaos in the disputed oil-rich Bakassi Peninsula, the high command of the Nigerian military has put members of the nations Armed Forces on red alert.

Our correspondent gathered from defence sources that a signal from the Commandant of the National War College, Rear Admiral Amos Adedeji, to all military formations alerted military personnel to the plot.
According to military sources, the signal, entitled Order Issue 14. Activities of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra and signed by one Wing Commander D.S. Bello, Staff Officer 1, Administration at the college, warned that the planned MASSOB action was inimical to the interest of the Federal Government.
The signal therefore urged the military to remain vigilant.
The one-page document reads thus: A group known as Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) is said to be planning to recruit Camerounian agents into its fold with intention of entering Bakassi and to create confusion in the South-East with the view of denying Nigeria the economic benefits. This is for your awareness and vigilance.
However, military authorities have denied the existence of any signal or document from the War College commandant.
The Director of Defence Information, Defence Headquarters, Abuja, Brigadier General Ganiyu Adewale, told our correspondent on phone that Adedeji and other heads of military training institutions lacked the authority to send signals to military units without first informing the Chief of Defence Staff, General Alexander Ogomudia.
Thats wrong information that was given to you. No commandant of any training institution can send signals to units or alert units that something is going wrong somewhere. Its a lie, there is nothing like that, Adewale said.
Speaking in the same vein, the Public Relations Officer of the war college, Commander K. Aliyu said the war college had nothing to with the military operations in Bakassi or even the Niger Delta.
You know what we do in the war college, isnt it? Is there any linkage between what are doing and what is going on there? I will find out what you are asking me now. If there is something like that, it must be from the Defence Headquarters, he said.

MASSOB not surprised at confab's failure
By Tony Edike
Monday, July 18, 2005
ENUGUTHE Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has described the just concluded National Political Reform Conference as a failure, saying the outcome of the conference has further justified the position taken by the group.
advertisement
The group said in a statement issued by the groups Director of Information, Comrade Uchenna Madu, that all the major grievances of the South- East and the South-South zones were not properly addressed at the confab, and vowed that it would continue to demand the actualization of Biafra in a non-violent manner as it had done in the past.
Madu said that Ndigbo had suffered "serious marginalization" in the polity, and instead of appeasing these injustices, the confab further humiliated Ndigbo.
He said, "We said it that the confab will not bring anything good for our people, what did we get now? A state is not enough to make Ndigbo feel a sense of belonging in Nigeria, and look at the way they disgraced our leaders at the confab
"This is why were saying that Nigeria does not need us. Were calling on Ohanaeze Ndigbo now to support MASSOB; this is the time for all patriotic Biafrans to come out openly and express their support for us, this is not the time to seat on the fence, we need to take our destinies in our hand"
The MASSOB Director of Information, stated if Biafrans were not needed in Nigeria, the authorities should allow them go peacefully instead of "coercing them" and hounding them like common criminals all over the country.
The group had earlier alleged that hundreds of its members were being detained in various prisons across the country "simply because the police said they found Biafran flags, stickers and calendars on them.
The spokesman of the group, Mr. Moshe Ben Israel, said during a press conference that the clampdown on members of the group would not stop them from their agitation for the Sovereign State of Biafra, saying steps were being taken to realize Biafra.
According to him, one of the steps was the circulation of the Biafran currency in Biafra land since June 30, 2005, after a public declaration by its leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike that the currency was now a legal tender.
"It may interest you to know that the Jewish Community Worldwide in Nigeria have demonstrated their support for MASSOB, they are now part of MASSOB for the struggle to actualize Biafra", he said.

US bans Nigerias military
Chris Agbambu
Contrary to the expectations of many that the relationship between Nigeria and the United States of America would normalise after last months security scare by the U.S. which led to the closure of their consulate and that of six other European countries in Lagos, there seems to be no love lost between the two countries yet.
This is as a result of the U.S. renewed ban on the Nigerian military from undergoing training in their military institutions.
The American government had embargoed all forms of training and supply of spare parts to the military during the military regime of late General Sani Abacha.
The embargo was, however, lifted after the return of the country to democracy in 1999.
Following the lifting of the military assistance embargo, the American government signed an agreement with President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999, for a military training team to be sent to Nigeria to assist in the re-professionalisation of the Armed Forces.
The initiative led to the sending of a team known as Military Professional Resource Institute (MPRI) comprising mainly of retired American military officers, with an office block at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
The arrangement, however, did not go down well with most senior military officers who argued that the team had nothing new to teach Nigerian soldiers having performed creditably in foreign operations, such as ECOMOG in Liberia and Sierra Leone which America never thought would have been possible.
But at the expiration of the MPRI tenure in 2003, the federal government rebuffed every attempt made by the U.S government to renew the training programme.
The refusal to renew the contract, it was gathered, did not go down well with the American government.
The renewed ban, according to military sources, is to create the impression in the international community that all is not well with Nigeria politically and that giving military training is like assisting them to derail democracy.
The American government is also said to have based its action on the fact of their security report, which revealed that the country might break up in the next 15 years with the military playing a very vital role.
Also, the ban apart from training will not allow for the importation of military spare parts for weapons and other platforms.
The U.S government had in 1999, promised to assist the Nigerian Airforce in making its transport planes, C130 Hercules, by providing spare parts worth over $125,000.
But the assistance was however short-lived, as America immediately suspended action after the shipment of the first consignment of the spare parts worth about $20,000.
Already the federal government and the military are looking forward to other friendly countries in Asia and the East to assist in the training of the military officers due for courses.
Meanwhile so many officers from the services due to attend staff and command courses as well as war college courses are affected by the ban.
Currently quite a number of officers from the armed forces are attending their command and staff colleges and war colleges in India, London, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Was I unwittingly put on some kind of Biafran nationialist mailing list? Is this the lad's way of saying "Stop the fussing, cause we're all one big family?" Most importantly, what can I say that would be mind-bogglingly shockingly offensive to these people (that would then trace back to a lad)? |

The original Biafran strongman in the late 60's was Major Ojukwo who snuck out of Nigeria with 6 wives, 3 Mercedes and a whole bunch of stolen loot right ahead of the army.
You could uriate all over his memory and rip on the whole concept of Biafra being nothing short of the bastard step-child of Nigeria, and the dumping ground for people too lazy and stupid to be Nigerians.
During the original Biafran War there was a wonderful controversy where the Biafrans tapped into a Yoruba-controlled petrol stroage tank and ran a series of fire hoses something like 2 km into the junlge to steal petrol for their vehicles... you might suggest that the flow in that line was started by Ojukwo sucking on the hose to start the siphon, and that the Biafran people have been excellent suckers ever since... |

I lived in Kano, Nigeria for three years during the time of the Biafran War. My father was working under contract with USAID (although I hope not to help the girl in the other thread today trying to get pregnant!) developing Nigeria's first nationwide television network. I've used quite a few gems from those days in my baits- especially when the lads try to get rude boi on me- I wail on them in arrogant Hausa pidgin and I get some great reactions.
As the ancient Chinese curse runs "may you live in interesting times..." I certainly had the chance to do that- it was a very interesting place for an American Junior High aged kid to be growing up.
Interesting foreshadowing of the kinds of garbage that we are all combatting with these scammers- those of you ancient enough to remember the sorrowful photos of the starving babies with the distended bellies that were used to generate funds for War Relief in Biafra at the time will be disgusted to know that they were all fakes- produced for the most part in London by fund-raising agents working for the Biafran cause. It was very early hand-editing work done on photos of English child models- I learned the story much later from one of the kids who had been photographed. |
