Two of the lads I've baited in the pig hunt have given me IBANs in Benin that fail the IBAN checker. Apparently they, or the banks, leave off four characters (the IBAN should be 28 characters long). Any idea why this is?

The lad's an idiot and doesn't know what an IBAN should look like, the bank gave them the wrong number, the checker site is wrong, ... - Who knows why it's wrong, but does it really matter?

If the lad gave you sufficient other details to report the account then report it and wait a few days before going back to the lad and telling him your bank say the IBAN is incorrect.

If you don't have sufficient details then ask the lad now for the correct ones.

You'll either end up with correct details or a brand new account.
