Mammals have three bones in each middle ear and one bone (the dentary) in the lower jaw. Other tetrapods have one bone (the columella) in each middle ear and more than one in the lower jaw. The malleus and incus in mammals are homologous to bones in the jaw articulation of other tetrapods. The stapes, which is homologous to the columella, gets its shape from a blood vessel passing through it.

Some fishes have Weberian ossicles connecting the swim bladder to the inner ear, but they are unrelated to our ossicles connecting the eardrum to the inner ear.

The aglet of a shoelace is analogous to the telomere of a chromosome. There is nothing in a shoelace analogous to the centromere.
