Excuse me if this has been addressed before but I'm a newbie.
I've been baiting a Fakebook profile who messaged me because I'm gorgeous, etc., an Army general etc. who needs to move money out of Syria etc. etc.--all was going smoothly until he had a courier at the airport with my $57K who had to call me on the phone. HAD to. I said my phone wasn't working and I couldn't leave the house to get another and so forth, but he wouldn't budge. I was waiting for a pitch to pay for the 'inspection fee' via WU or credit card, but he never got that far. I'm really curious--why did he have to speak to me on the phone?
Also, in the Nigerian-type scams why does the 1st fictional person always have to turn you over to a 2nd fictional person, a banker, this courier, the reverend at the refugee center. Why is that such an important part of their process? I'm just curious.
Thanks for any help!

If you are using your real name and telephone to contact this scammer on facebook.
DROP HIM HE HAS YOUR REAL LIFE DETAILS, DO NOT TALK TO HIM.
We have to be very blunt and to the point as we only bait save with scammers. |

Welcome chloe.
Fo'andles has it right to urge caution, if this is your real Facebook profile or connected to your real life info it is not baitable.
The reason they want the phone is, in part, because they can really put on the pressure in real time, make more of a personal connection to their victims which makes a payout more likely.
About the other scam approach with multiple characters. There are various reasons for this. One is to make the scam seem more important and serious. Another is that the multiple characters can exert different kinds of pressure on the victim when it comes time to pay. I am sure others will have more to add. |

I figured as much (about the reasons for two characters) and about why they insisted on a phone call, but I am still surprised that the phone call was such a deal breaker. I'd been cooperative up until then, so why not just ask me for a credit card to pay the 'inspection fee' and be done with it?
I am not happy about them having my real life Facebook details but I have been inundated with fake FB profiles of distinguished older men so I had to start screwing with them. The thing is they don't seem to know who they're messaging. They NEVER call me by name (I figure it's because they're cutting and pasting and too lazy to personalize) but this guy didn't even bat an eye when he asked for a name and address and I gave him one totally different than my Facebook name which he must see while messaging.
Also it seems once they've created the fake profile, they never look at it again, because I've posted on their timeline to ask why they're using someone else's picture and they still message me. I really don't understand the cyberspace end of it. |

If you want to bait scammers, there is a ton of good info here. But the best advice, by far, is to drop any lad who has access to your real life profile/info like a blazing hot rock. These people are criminals. Period. Want to bait? create a fake FB profile that has no connection to your real life. Singing up for a mentor is also highly recommended.

Hi Chloe,
Scammers frequently don't even read their own timeline-it's just a platform to run their scams. Plus, when you get switched to scammer #2, the info in the profile becomes irrelevant. Closing them by reporting doesn't help-it takes a scammer 5 seconds to make a new one.
If you want to mess with these dirtbags, make an entirely fake profile-with a pic of a minor celeb and NONE of your real life info. They won't even notice that the friend request comes for a different account. Never friend someone you actually know from this profile.. And put your security settings as high as possible on your real account, while deleting every request from unknown profiles.
