He is under US NATO. 3rd sergent
Theyre currently in Nigeria right now

So he needs a plane ticket costing $900. He had 850 at hand and hes asking if i could send him 50$

I have already sent him 100
How do i find out if he is real or not?

Hello,

This is a commonly used scam format. I will examine the photographs to see where they came from but I suspect they are stolen from somewhere else.

The money you have sent is lost - we cannot retrieve it for you. Do not send him any more. Importantly, cease all contact with this person. Do not let him persuade you to do anything else.

Also I think you have used your real name to sign up, something we don't recommend for your own security. Send me a private message please, and let me know what you would prefer to change it to.

Edited to add, I can't find any matches to the images using Google Images reverse search. However there are some fairly typical signs that the man in the photo did not send them to you. Let's examine those.

Photo 1 has horizontal scan lines, fringeing and blurring consistent with being taken from a TV screen. Nobody needs to photograph themselves off a TV. Everyone has a camera phone or can borrow one in ten seconds flat.

Photo 2 doesn't contain anything really incriminating. However ...

Photo 3 is dated 2008 - It is six years old. Since this guy looks absolutely the same in all the photos it can be assumed that the other photos are of a similar age. Who sends out six year old photos? Like I said, nearly everyone has a camera phone nowadays and the military are certainly not short of portable cameras. Why has he sent such an odd assortment of images? Because they are the only ones he has got, that's why. The man in the photograph has never contacted you. You are talking to a professional fraud artist.

Serving soldiers are never required to pay for flights home. This is taken care of by the Army. Equally they cannot buy leave - it is granted or not granted. At no stage is it paid for.

Can you post some of his first emails to you?

I searched his email and phone number, nothing on the email and the phone number matches to where is says he is from.

In the meantime, follow Nailgunner's advice.

There is absolutely no reason for him to be asking you for money for a plane ticket.

Hi RB,

There are no troops deployed in Nigeria. And no member of the US Armed Forces is required to pay for their transportation. I'm sorry but this person is a scammer.

Please do not respond to any phone call or email from him-block him. The only thing he is interested in is the money and frequently scams claiming to recover your money are sent. I hate these scammers:they take your self-respect, not just your money.

Nailgunner gave you good advice-check out our sister site, ScamWarners who specialize in dealing with victims. The money may be gone but please take care of yourself.

The address he gave also doesn't seem to exist. Google maps puts it in the middle of the street in front of new building construction.

I'm sorry that you've been taken in but I do applaud you for checking him out before you were hurt too bad by him.

Just may I add my thoughts to you. It is awful to find out that you have believed and been a victim of a very bad person.

Nailgunner gives the best advice. It is so important you drop him although it won't be easy for you to do. Drop him and don't let him get back in touch.

It's good advice you know to read about the various scams on other sites (ScamWarners having problems at the moment but look at it when it's back) because you are not alone. It's happened to a lot of people and some have continued to send money for a long time. Now that may not take the hurt away... but you'll know you've done nothing wrong... it's them.

We are thinking of you in this. Be strong you are worth better. Take care.

That doesn't mean anything. Both Google and Bing maps have our address wrong. We looked it up and it places us 2 miles away in the middle of nowhere.(We already live in the middle of nowhere, but it still puts us where there is absolutely nothing but 100ft pine trees) Our place was built in the 1960's, so it's not a new place.

DoomAngel, that was very good advice and yes, we're glad you found us.

I am sure once Scam Warners is up and running, your scammer will be listed on their site. We just need to make sure it's a scam. That's why I asked you to post the first couple of emails he sent you, with your private information redacted.

Some Buddy At Home - respectfully, it is a scam. What we can not say with 100% certainty without headers or a Ouiji board is that the man who owns that particular yahoo address is a scammer. But here is what we do know:

1. There are no USA troops in Nigeria
2. There are no NATO troops in Nigeria
3. USA military and NATO troops do not need to seek payment from friends or relatives for leave.

In regard to maps, Google maps is not 100% accurate but it is telling if someone's address doesn't match --and-- other elements of their story also do not ring true.

Your advice that they submit the information to scamwarners.com when it is back online is sound.

To rosmary blackburn - very sorry that you came across this sort of scammer and welcome to eater.

Oh I agree Padme that it's a scam. I just thought there had to be proof before listing someone's phone number and personal address that it is indeed a scam. The reason I was given is to insure a new member is not posting their boss', ex-boyfriend or ex-friend's personal information.

Was I/am I wrong?

Ah. Nope. Not wrong at all. We are in agreement on that.

Without headers, etc. there is not enough to bait the yahoo address above (so hopefully no one is yet). What we do know is that the format itself (USA / NATO soldier in Nigeria needs $ for leave) is a scam.

What I was saying is that the address that he gave doesn't seem to exist. I'm not saying that google maps is 100% correct but in googling the address itself, I couldn't find any indication that there was a 4568 westheimer road.

^^^^ Yes, I know. Like I said, Google had us mapped (where there was no street) in the middle of nowhere, with nothing more than 100ft pine trees. We would have had to get out of our car and walk 1/4 mile into the forest for us to find our address. There was no buildings, street, dirt road, tent, sign ... nothing.

Since we live where my fiancé works (it's a B&B) we had to call both Google and Bing to get it straightened out. People were getting lost, much like our lads who go to the ever popular SH, and pissed off that there was no Inn at the end of the road.

I know this one is a scam, knew it when I read the first post.

We've had the same problem (we live out in the woods). But I'm talking about finding the address in google search, not google maps. I guess I didn't make that clear in my last post, sorry. I guess I need my caffeine. Laughing
